Barone Ricasoli castello do Barolo Colledila Gran Selezione

*** 91 Points ***

Chianti Classico Colledila is 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard cru located 380 meters above sea level and characterized by veins of chalky and clay soil. It opens with a bright ruby color and buoyant aromas of forest fruit, wet earth and garden leaf. In fact, those delicate floral-herbal aromas are what ultimately distinguish this expression. Silky tannins give it firmness and lasting momentum.

"Colledilà" - the land which has been part of the Brolio estate for centuries - is the cru of this Chianti Classico DOCG that stands out due to its complex structure and great modern elegance.

Casalferro, 2010

Ricasoli, Toscana IGT

Intense and bright ruby red. Intense balsamic and spicy hints to the nose. Cocoa, pepper and liquorice and cinnamon blend with the fragrance of ripe red fruit.Massive and pleasant in the mouth, the red fruit mixes once again with the spices and the sweet and elegant tannins of the wood used for the ageing.

Today the New Casalferro is the result of seventeen years of experimentation: a straight Merlot obtained from a single plot of land: the homonymous Casalferro vineyard; located along the road that leads from Brolio Castle to the village of Monti in Chianti (in the province of Siena). A Merlot that speaks the language of Brolio: a glass of Casalferro wine will suffice to understand that we are in the land of the Ricasoli Barons.

Zamperino Rosso, 2008

Lazio, Falesco

Very well-made, super glossy, smooth and drinkable modern Italian from famed wine consultant, Riccardo Cotarella. This is international certainly — a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet and Petit Verdot — but it has a nice dose of firm tannin to offset the sweet fruit.” (thewinegang.com)

Powerful, yet elegant (like Ricardo’s favorite horse, for which the wine is named), Zamperino overflows with intense black cherry, plum and smooth spice. A trusted companion for your next Italian feast.

Valpolicella, 2005

Zenato

The Valpolicella zone is bordered to the west by the Bardolino DOC, located along the banks of Lake Garda, which produces similar wines to basic Valpolicella using many of the same grapes. The historical "heart" of Valpolicella winemaking is in the Monti Lessini hills located northwest of the town of Verona. In 1968, the boundaries of the region were extended far eastward towards the DOC production zone of Soave and south to the plains of the northern bank of the Po river and its tributary the Adige.

Barolo, 2004

Enrico Serafino

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods, hearty stews and mature cheeses.

Dolcetto d'Alba, 2004

Pio Cesare

A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.
