Barolo is a red wine. It has been named the “the wine of kings” and the “king of wines” by wine experts across the globe. The DOC – Denominazione di Origine Controllata, which is the Italian quality assurance label for wines states that Barolo wine must be produced from 100% Nebbiolo grape and has to age for a minimum of 3 years before being available to buy. The three years includes two years of aging in a barrel and one year resting in the bottle. It is also possible to purchase Reserva Barolo, where the wine must be aged for a minimum of 5 years before being sold.
Barolo wine comes from the Piedmont region of Northern Italy and is produced from the Nebbiolo grape, which is closely related to the word, “nebbia”, meaning “fog” in Italian. The reason the grape is known as Nebbiolo is that in September and October fog is quite common in the Piedmont region, which is the time that the grapes are ready for harvesting.
The Northern part of Italy with it’s warm temperatures during the day and cool temperatures at night, enables the Nebbiolo grape to have good aromatic complexity and high levels of tannin, which makes Barolo an excellent wine for aging.

Prunotto Alfredo
Cinnamon, candied apples, cloves, vanilla, liqourice, cherries - a port like smell - very ripe berry fruit - incredible! The taste is medium full body, a touch of sweetness, good acidity. The port like character is present in the taste. The tannins are played down - not too dry. Full broad attack leading to a voluptuous mid palate with the acid and toasted oak predominating at the very long finish. Loads of fruit perfectly integrated with the oak.

Prandi, Marchesi di Barolo
Murky raspberry tea colored in the glass, most unusual. Good cork with a fill into the neck. Nose of roses and crushed berries was really nice but yielded to an amazing palate that was surprisingly rich and viscous with fresh cherries and good acidity. The finish even had a little tannin in it and a slight licorice note at the end. Quite an experience and lovely with the food.

Made with the Nebbiolo grape, Barolo is considered to be one of the finest types of wine in the world and is often refered to as 'the King of wines'.
The Marchesi di Barolo is a fine example of the 1965 vintage. It is a powerfully structured wine, tannic and deep ruby, warm complex flavour. Characteristic and intense perfume, delicate and harmonic, with a light scent of vanilla and flowering vineyards. It is a wine of ample taste, warm and persistent, of great harmony and flavour. Amazing freshness for a wine this age combined with fine finish with plenty of stuffing.
