Taylor, Fladgate, & Yeatman (often simply Taylor Fladgate) is one of the largest port wine houses. Founded in 1692 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, it is also one of the oldest. The house invented the style of late-bottled vintage port. Taylor Fladgate's vintage ports are some of the most sought-after and expensive ports in the world.
In addition to Vintage Port, Taylor's has also enjoyed considerable success with its Quinta de Vargellas, under which label Vintage wine is made in good years that have not been declared. The range has been developed with Quinta de Terra Feita in the Pinhão valley and Quinta do Junco, Vila Nova da Gaia and Xisto.
The Port wines are typically closed and austere when young; it is only with adequate ageing that they loosen up and offer their subliminal qualities.

Vintage Port
Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades. The 1966 is drinking well now and is an exceptional Taylor.

Vintage Port
This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades. The 1963 is quite fabulous yet still seemingly capable of developing for another decade or more.Parker Buying Guide 1989. Rating 95/100

Scion - Very Old Vintage Port
In 2008 Taylor’s wine maker David Guimaraens became aware of the existence of a very old and rare cask-aged port dating from before the arrival of Phylloxera in the Douro Valley. The wine belonged to a distinguished Douro family and was stored in a lodge in the village of Prezegueda in the Corgo Valley. A treasured heirloom, passed down from one generation to the next, it was maintained as a private family reserve, with the exception of one pipe said to have been acquired by Winston Churchill. In 2009 the sole surviving direct descendant of the family died, leaving no children. Her heirs, not all family members, …

Vintage Port
98 Points (Parker)
98 Points (Wine Journal)
Reviews: "Among the most saturated blue/purple/black-colored examples of the vintage, Taylor's 2000 tastes like a young vintage of Chateau Latour on steroids. Aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and smoke jump from the glass. Spectacularly concentrated and enormously endowed, with sweetness allied to ripe tannin, decent acidity, and layer upon layer of fruit and extract, this is the leading candidate for the port of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040." Parker, Wine Advocate 2002.

Quinta de Terra Feita Vintage Port
Quinta de Terra Feita's vines have been supplying Taylor Fladgate with the highest quality grapes for over a hundred years.
This famous old estate is one of the most substantial properties in, what is considered by many, to be the finest wine producing area of the Upper Douro. The Quinta is situated on the western slopes of the Pinhao River Valley. With over 61 hectares under vine it produces 1,300 hectoliters of port wine.
The wines of Terra Feita are all produced in traditional granite lagares on the property. This ancient method still produces the best quality wine; the gentle action of the foot carefully extracts the maximum colour, fruit and tannins from the wine. …

Vintage Port
96 Points - Robert Parker
97 Points - Wine Journal
Reviews: "Saturated black/purple-colored, with stunning aromatics of blueberries, blackberries, licorice, and iron, this spectacular vintage port is one of the stars of the vintage. Extremely full-bodied, with silky tannin, spectacular concentration and purity, multiple flavor levels, and an evolved, forward personality, this is an exquisite yet precocious 1997 vintage port. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2030." Robert Parke Wine Advocate, 2000
"A deep black inky core with deep ruby rim. The nose dose not have the definition or the ripeness of the -92 yet it is cut from the same cloth. …

Reviews
Taylor Fladgate's 1991 Quinta de Vargellas is the finest Vargellas I have tasted. The opaque purple color is followed by aromatics that are more closed than most 1991s. In the mouth, it is a wine of extraordinary richness and brilliantly delineated components. This exceptionally rich, backward port possesses layer upon layer of fruit, a thick, chewy, unctuous texture, firm structure and tannin, and a finish that lasts for more than a minute. It is an exquisite port that will age for 25-30 years. Robert Parker Wine Advocate
In a vintage where most other Port lodges declared a vintage, Taylor’s chose to simply produce this stellar Quinta de Vargellas. …

Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port
An outstanding port from the rare 1988 vintage.
Reviews: "Very typical Taylor's style on the nose, rather reserved, spicy and stylish fruit. Gentle, and a lovely silkiness to at the start. Fine fruit, very stylish composition. Appropriate grip and texture. Lots of tannin evident on a second taste. This is rather good. From a Port Styles tasting. 16.5-17+/20 (November 2007)" Wine Doctor, Online
