Warre Vintage Port

Warre’s has been leading the Port trade since it was established as the first British Port House in 1670.

Warre’s Vintage port wines combine elegance, length and balance whilst still retaining the underlying rich opulence of great Vintage Port.

This unsurpassed style is derived from the inherent characteristics of Warre’s two principal vineyards: Quinta da Cavadinha and Quinta do Retiro Antigo. They complement each other very well. Cavadinha’s location, aspect and altitude translate into a cooler ripening cycle providing the freshness, fine subtle floral aromas and ideal acidity, the latter contributing significantly to the wines’ longevity. Retiro Antigo’s location in the hotter Rio Torto Valley, combined with the fact that just over 70% of the vineyard is made up of old, mixed vines, results in wines that show great intensity, concentration and complexity. Their powerful structure also provides great staying power.

Warre Vintage Port, 1996

Quinta da Cavadinha Vintage Port

*** 91 Points - Robert Parker ***

Warre's Quinta da Cavadinha is one of the finest vineyards (all 'A' graded) in the Pinhao valley, one of the Upper Douro's finest Port-growing regions. In declared vintage years, the best wines from Cavadinha are used as the principal component of Warre's Vintages. In other good years a limited quantity of the Quinta's wines are set aside for bottling after two years in cask. As with true vintage port, Quinta da Cavadinha is bottled without any fining or filtration and therefore should be decanted before drinking. It will also continue to age in the bottle for at least 15 years and often much longer.

Warre Vintage Port, 1994

Vintage Port

An outstanding port scoring 94 points (Robert Parker)

"One of the finest Warres I have ever tasted, this opaque purple-coloured wine is made in a drier style (a la Dow), yet it is expressive, extremely full-bodied, with superb richness, purity, and well-integrated alcohol and tannin. It possesses a great mid-palate as well as impressive length. Tasters should take note of the wealth of peppery, liquorice-scented and flavoured raspberry and blackcurrant fruit. Look for it to be ready to drink in 10-12 years, and keep for 30+. This is a profound example of Warre vintage port." Parker Wine Advocate

Qunita da Cavadinha 37.5cl Bottles

Warre's Quinta da Cavadinha is one of the finest vineyards in the Pinhão valley, one of the Upper Douro's finest Port-growing regions.

Reviews
Very fleshy and elegant for a 1986 and as good as the impressive 1987. It may be one of the best 1986s. Excellent deep inky colour, with a nose of tar and berries, full-bodied, with ripe, fleshy fruit flavours, full tannins and a gutsy finish. Good grip." JAmes Suckling, Vintage Port (book)

Warre Vintage Port, 1983

Vintage Port

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***

Light red colour with just a touch of purple showing through. Warre has drier firm style, less show more workman-like but with elegance and what the Symingtons call “florals”. The style at 25 years is charming. It’s above all harmonious with a dried fruit and almonds undercurrent mixed with a pinch of cocoa and tea leaf. It has fine acidity and length with just the right bite in the back end.

"Perfumed chocolate and spice nose. Floral hints, rich palate. Great elegance".

Warre Vintage Port, 1977

Vintage Port (was £89.95 now £79.95)

"This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavourful vintage port. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop, and have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1977 is quite powerful, very deep and intense, particularly for Warre." Robert Parker, Buying Guide 2nd Ed.

Warre Vintage Port, 1970

Vintage Port

“Very serious wine, still challenging, with almonds, figs and prunes, all dribbled with bittersweet chocolate. Warm and embracing…”.
Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecker , The Wall Street Journal 03/02/2006

“Gloriously vibrant wet violets nose. What a marvellous mouthful of sweet, voluptuous roses and raisins. Superb – and so youthful”.
Serena Sutcliffe , Sotheby’s Catalogue 17/07/2002

"…sweet, full-bodied, rich, almost too rich, yet not overpowering, with the perfect weight and balance I expect from Warre at its best."
