Description

Six excellent ports from the 2012 vintage presented in a stained six bottle presentation box.

- Fonseca 2012 (75cl)
"A deeper hue with more opacity from this Port, the product of blending different estates (the other two are single quinta/estate vintage Ports). It’s more robust too with a charge of powdery, textured tannins behind its ripe plum and dried fig fruit with just a hint of tobacco. The most “traditional” in feel and, following Guimaraens’ masterclass, I’m certainly more conscious of the savoury dimension which Tinta Amarela seems to bring to the blend. Very good." Sarah Ahmed, Wine Detective (Online)
- Taylors 2012 (75cl)
"My pick of the bunch. Just glorious in its aromatic and fruit purity with violet-scented cassis and a long, very precise ever so Taylor’s finish well supported by firm but powdery tannins. Excitingly vibrant and fresh with lingering fruit and floral intensity." Sarah Ahmed, Wine Detective (online)
- Quinta do Noval 2012 (75cl)
“A wonderful balance of concentration and delicacy, complex aromas of violets and cedar overlay a core of fruit with purity and freshness.’.
- Quinta do Vesuvio 2012 (75cl)
The Quinta do Vesuvio 2012 Vintage Port is deep purple-black and inky in the glass, indicative of a voluptuous, blockbuster wine. It has opulence on the nose, with the richness and ripe blackberry aromas of the predominant Touriga Nacional. This is balanced with the distinctive minerality and floral fragrance of the Touriga Franca. It has good structure and smooth tannins. The Tinta Amarela gives the wine soft, velvety feel on the palate.
- Croft 2012 (75cl)
"Deep purple and classic Croft in its purple palate prose, with an almost raw concentration of sappy, powdered cassis and black cherry and elegant lift of violets to the finish. It has just a hint of balancing green coffee bean and bitter chocolate to balance its sweetness. Youthfully, fruitily effusive. Very good." Sarah Ahmed, Wine Detective (online)
- Dow Quinta de Senhora Ribera (75cl)
Exceptionally aromatic with aromas of violets, which is typical of Dow’s Vintage Ports coming from the south facing Touriga Franca vineyards, which in 2012 achieved perfect ripeness. There are also hints of blackberry, blackcurrant and black plum on the nose. Notes of Esteva (rock-rose) are also present, the result of the Touriga Nacional, which often expresses these scents. This is a vibrant wine, already quite complex and subtle. There is some spice from the relatively high proportion of Sousão. This is balanced with fresh acidity and minerality. On the palate the hallmark Dow’s drier style shows through in the long finish and ripe but firm tannins.
