Description
A 2003 vintage bordeaux wine. Château Bernadotte, Haut-Médoc, made fruity, chunky wine that has firm tannins and upfront cassis and plum fruit in 2003. During this vintage it was managed by the team at Château Pichon Lalande and they did a great job avoiding over-ripeness and jammy characters which were common in this hotter than usual vintage. The finish is medium but there is plenty of concentrated, forward, and classic Medoc flavours to bring drinking pleasure now.
The Chateau Bernadotte vineyards lie in the commune of Saint Sauveur, which lies just outside the Pauillac appellation. About 2.5 kilometres to the east is the grand puy, Grand-Puy-Lacoste, and just slightly further south, Batailley and Haut-Batailley. There are 35 hectares in all, the majority lying around Le Fournas on the western side - although a few are dotted along the eastern road down towards Pauillac. The soils here are a mix of sandy and gravelly clay, and the varieties planted are 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
