Description
Philippe Dhaluin, the administrator of Mouton Rothschild, has a hand in the wines of Chateau dArmailhac, creating from 2010's wonderful harvest a wine of proud perfume, vibrancy and concentration. The 70 hectares of vines are set on deep gravelly soils from which excellent Cabernet Sauvignon is the star. Alongside the preferred grape, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot accompany and enhance - planted at extremely high density (10,000 vines per hectare) the fruit is harvested and vinified traditionally to create this refined and deeply satisfying wine style.

Wine Advocate #205 Feb 2013 - Robert Parker - Another sensational effort from Philippe Dhaluin, the administrator of Mouton Rothschild, this blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot shows complex floral notes intermixed with forest floor, camphor, black currants and mulberries that all jump from the glass of this aromatic style of dâ??Armailhac. This wine possesses very good acidity, a surprisingly higher percentage of Merlot than usual, but the quality is impressive, and the good news is that there are 20,000 cases of this full-bodied beauty, which should age nicely for 15-20+ years.

Tasted Jan 2014 - Dark crimson. Complete and complex on the nose. Light and fresh. Very attractive and well balanced but no blockbuster. Some mineral character.
Wine Spectator (2010)92 to 95 pts
This has a nice briary core, showing dark fig and plum flavors, with a backdrop of roasted sage and tobacco. Offers good muscle and heft, but also the rounded feel of the house style. Tasted non-blind. —J.M.

Feb 2013 - Polished and very fine with pretty fruit and berry structure. Full and silky with a delicious finish. It's so good now to drink but has depth and structure. Drink or hold.

July '13 - Good bright ruby-red. Complex, perfumed aromas of blueberry, boysenberry, smoke, mocha, spices and cedar. Sweet and plush in the mouth, with an enticing floral element and a whiff of orange peel lifting the blueberry, coffee, camphor and spice flavors. Fine-grained, concentrated, minerally Pauillac with suave, fully buffered tannins and excellent length and lingering perfume. And no shortage of acidity here. -- Stephen Tanzer

Beautifully concentrated black fruits, already has florality and spice, refreshingly elegant and classy, a wine with individuality, spice and (for Pauillac) charm. Drink 2017-28.
Neal Martin (2010)90 to 92 pts
Neal Martin 90-92pts: A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, delivering 13.85% alcohol with close 3.74 pH. The nose is a little muted at the moment despite rigorous coaxing, quite Zen-like with crushed stone, traces of blackberry leaf and cassis, gaining momentum with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly abrasive tannins on the entry although they will soften. This is a relatively masculine d’Armailhac without the glycerine you often find at this stage. More masculine, the Cabernet Sauvignon driving along to a stern but fresh finish. Good potential, but it will require cellaring more than usual. Drink 2017- Tasted April 2011.
