Description

Messias 10 year old white Port is a golden dry white wine with a fine aroma of wood with notes of vanilla and spices, some hints of nutmeg. The palate confirms all the aromas, it leaves a good acidity combined with a long finish. It's full of flavour, very rich, concentrated and has a smooth but long finish.

A fairly rare style of port, the 10 years old white is characterised by skin contact and oxidative maturation. It is golden in colour, with good acidity, concentration and wood from the long ageing all come together to give a Port that is dry while very rich, with just a hint of orange marmalade flavour.

It is made in the same way as aged tawnies, with slow aging in pipes in the Messias lodges. The white grapes undergo a long period of skin maceration and are foot trodden. Following the addition of grape brandy, the White Port spends a year in large oak vats, followed by ageing in traditional oak pipes for a period of between 7 and 15 years.

Reviews

90 Points - Mark Squires Wine Advocate
The NV 10 Year Old White Port is a blend of 40% Malvasia Fina, 30% Rabigato, 15% Viosinho and 15% Códega do Larinho. It comes in with 65 grams per liter of residual sugar. This is a stern and dry-ish White Port, finishing with tension and power, grabbing the tongue and proving to be very serious. It ends with toast and baked pear nuances on the gripping finish. This is impressive as a ten-year-old White, very focused and very precise. It comes with a bar-top cork and was bottled in 2016. MS July 2017

Dry golden white colour. On the nose stand out vanilla and spice notes, allied to a floral touch. The palate confirms all these aromas, combining a subtle wood and a good acidity confer unique characteristics to this wine, which has a long and pleasant aftertaste. *Robert Parker's Wine Advocate*
