Fonseca Guimaraens Port, 2008

Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port (Special offer was 34.95 now 29.95)

Very deep purple black with violet highlights. As would be expected of a Guimaraens Vintage Port, the first impression on the nose is of a powerful detonation of blackberry, cassis, strawberry and woodland fruit. These exuberant berry aromas are seasoned with notes of coffee, treacle and spice and surrounded by a fragrant balsamic aura of gumcistus and mint. The intense fruit flows through the palate like a thick blackcurrant coulis. The palate is supported by a taut fabric of closely woven tannins and the long finish resounds with a final blast of sumptuous ripe berry flavour.

Taylor's Vintage Port, 2008

Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port (Special offer was £38.95 now £36.95)

This Single Quinta Release from Taylors Flagship estate of Quinta de Vargellas displays the density and concentration typical of the year as well as the elegance and finesse which are the hall mark of the estate.

Tasting note: Inky Black with a purple rim. Compact and stylish nose, with intense aromas of black current and wild berries wrapped around a dark nucleus of liquorice and treacle. This dense backdrop is overlaid with subtle notes of tea, rose petal, tyme and exotic wood with an attractive grapy freshness emerging as the nose develops. As usual with the Vargellas, the nose shows exceptional purity and resolution but is seductive in its complexity.

Chateau Langoa Barton, 2007

Saint Julien, 3eme Grand Cru Classe (Special Offer was £49.95 now £38)

** 90 Points - Robert Parker **
** 91 Points - Wine Journal **

Reviews: "This potential sleeper of the vintage has come around nicely now that it is in bottle. Elegant yet substantial, it exhibits a dense purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of black currants, cassis, cedarwood, herbs, toast and loamy soil undertones. Medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin (a component that was not evident from barrel), it should drink nicely for 15 or more years." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 2011

"The Langoa 08 has a fine, understated, well-defined bouquet with blackberry, cedar, wild hedgerow and a touch of pencil lead, building nicely in the glass.

Churchill Vintage Port, 2007

Vintage Port (Special Offer was 54.95 now £44.95)

90 Points (outstanding) Wine Advocate.

Coffee, lavender and rose add complexity to the intense blackberry nose; on the palate the Churchill is a bold and powerful wine with the floral notes continuing through to the marmalade spiked bramble fruit. Fresh acidity and grippy tannins give massive structure - this is a wine for the long term.

Reviews: "The 2007 Churchill Vintage Port offers up an expressive fragrance of blueberry compote and fruitcake. Residing in the background providing additional complexity are notes of violets, clove, and incense. This leads to a firm, structured, muscular Port with plenty of fruit for balance.

Taylor's Vintage Port, 2007

Vintage Port (Special offer was £64.95 now £59.95)

96 Points Wine Advocate

Reviews: The 2007 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port is a blend of multiple sites meant to express the house style in a great year. It displays a superb aromatic array of pencil lead, Asian spices, incense, blackberry, and floral notes. Dense, suave, and opulent on the palate, this is a mouth-filling, intense, layered wine that has superb grip and concentration. It will effortlessly age for 25+ years and still be delivering pleasure at age 50. " Wine Advocate 2010

As always, Taylor Fladgate is one of the benchmarks of a declared vintage in Oporto

Chateau Langoa Barton, 2003

Saint-Julien (SPECIAL OFFER WAS £59.95 now £44.95)

*** 90 Points - Parker ***
*** 92-94 Points Wine Journal ***

Reviews: "This is often looked at as the second wine of Leoville Barton, but it is actually a separate estate, producing wines that are slightly softer than the more formidably endowed and broodingly backward Leoville Bartons. The outstanding 2003, a softer version of the Leoville Barton, exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, sweet black cherries intermixed with subtle herbal notes, roasted meats, juices, and black currants. In the mouth, it is expansive, savory, round, and seemingly on a much faster evolutionary track than Leoville Barton" Parker, Wine Advocate 1996.

Dow Vintage Port, 1985

Vintage Port

"Drinking beautifully now at early optimal maturity, this has at least another few years of development in front of it and many years of drinking pleasure after that. Now it is nicely developed, well integrated, juicy and ripe with a nice balance between its power, weight, and texture; it is succulent but still elegant. Delicious. Really excellent."

Fonseca Vintage Port, 1983

Vintage Port

An outstanding Port rating 92/100 from an outstanding vintage. Robert Parker writes of this port... "Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port. If Fonseca lacks the sheer weight and power of a Taylor, Dow or Warre, or the opulent sweetness and intensity of a Graham, it excels in its magnificently complex, intense bouquet of plummy, cedary, spicy fruit and long, broad, expansive flavors. With its lush, seductive character, one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage ports. When it is young, it often loses out in blind tastings to the heavier, weightier, more tannic wines, but I always find myself upgrading my opinion of Fonseca after it has had 7-10 years of age.
