1963 Vintage Report
Italian: 1963 was a mediocre vintage for Italian wines from Piedmont and Tuscany. However quality Italian reds such as Barolo and Brunello are still drinking well today.
Bordeaux: 1963 was a terrible year for Bordeaux that rivals 1965 for the worst vintage of the decade. One to avoid
Port: A monumental Vintage of legendary proportions! 1963 was one of the 20th Century's finest Vintages and is the one against which, all others are judged. Declared by all the major Port houses. Power, dimension and real character, are all characteristics of this most memorable Vintage. Even after nearly 40 years the best wines never fail to impress with their essential three components of fruit, tannin and elegance. Almost always appear to be younger than they really are.

Vintage Port
Description: New stock please allow up 7 working days for delivery. "A beautiful rich nose of roasted coffee beans, cherry liqueur and Asian spice. The palate is smooth, hedonistic and loaded with sweet red fruits such as strawberries and raspberries. There is a saturated quality to this Dow, a sense of completeness that I love. An opulent chocolaty finish - very long and attractive. Perhaps not as “structured” as I expected but this Dow is drinking beautifully and will surely last a number of years. Drink now-2020." Tasted July 2003. Neil Martin, Wine Journal Rating 94-95 (outstanding)

Vintage Port
Description: *** 96 Points Robert Parker ** Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port. It excels in its magnificently complex, intense bouquet of plummy, cedary, spicy fruit and long, broad, expansive flavors. With its lush, seductive character, one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage ports. "The 1963, one of the great modern-day classics of vintage port, is an incredibly aromatic, sublime, majestic port that simply defines Fonseca's style perfectly." Robert Parker 1989.

Vintage Port (Half Bottle 37.5L, reproduction Labels)
Description: An outstanding 1963 Port scoring 96/100 Parker Points. Reviews: "What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is! The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice. The palate is beautifully balanced, understated on the entry but building all the time, flashes of eucalyptus leading towards a more extrovert, clove tinged finish that hangs around the palate like an obsessed ex-girlfriend. Gorgeous Grahams! Tasted May 2009." Neil Martin, Wine Journal

Vintage Port
Description: Power, dimension and real character, are all hallmarks of this most memorable Vintage. Even after nearly 50 years the Ports never fail to impress with their essential three components of fruit, tannin and elegance. Almost always appear to be younger than they really are. "A light rust, garnet hue with degradated deep brick rim. The nose is comparatively simple with scents of cherry, spice, iron rust and wild strawberry. Perhaps a little flat compared to the others. A medium-bodied palate, quite pretty, with damson, cherries and a touch of sloes. Quite cohesive, though lacking the breeding of great 1963’s. But the finish is pleasantly harmonious with good vigour, though perhaps rather linear. Given its reputation, this is actually better than I anticipated. Something tells me that this is an over-performing bottle, but this is a lovely, elegant mature port. Tasted February 2007." Neil Martin Wine Journal

Vintage Port
Description: The colour of barley sugar. A faint smell of caramel on the nose. Quite thick and sweet in the mouth. Lots of barley sugar, brown sugar and burnt toffee over the top of bitter orange. Very pleasant.

Vintage Port
Description: The 1963 Sandeman has less of a deep-ruby/purple colour, but it does offer a spice-box, fruitcake sort of aroma, mildly sweet, medium- to full-bodied flavours, and a ripe, tasty finish. Not a heavyweight, this wine represents a lighter style of vintage port.
