1985 Vintage Report
Italian: An outstanding vintage, one of the best in the last 50 years for Piedmont and Tuscany. The vintage produced wines of great consistency. The best wines should be great.
Bordeaux: The 1985 vintage produced wines that are characterised by being well developed, rich and having a seductive complexity with an attractive perfume. A drought for much of August and September led to concentrated grapes at harvest. The wines have now generally gone through the peak of their maturity and should be drunk within the next few years.
Port: A great classic Vintage, with concentrated, rich and potent wines. General declaration of vintage.

Fonseca Vintage Port, 1985
Vintage Port
Description: This has a lovely nose of maturing port, finely styled and just screaming quality. The palate carries a svelte texture, with a creamy, flattering character. Excellent wine, and a great example of the vintage. (November 2006). Dense ruby/purple with the Oriental spice-box aroma, the 1985 is an expansive, sweet, broadly flavored wine with outstanding depth, concentration, and balance. Taylor's Vintage Port, 1985
Vintage Port
Description: "Typical for Taylor's. Notes of woodspice and pepper, very slightly spirity. Nevertheless, a delicious texture on entry, supple and stylish, although with a very firm weight, firm tannins and good acids. Again this is fine to drink now, although it still holds some potential now. Very good indeed, bordering on excellent. From a Port Styles tasting." 17.5+/20 (November 2007), Wine Doctor (online).

Warre Vintage Port, 1985
Vintage Port
Description: From the outstanding 1985 Vintage Reviews: "Lovely orange skins nose, together with nuts and figs. On the palate, it has finesse, elegance and such a sweet kickback. Massively enchanting and, now it is over the magic 20 years, perfection to drink." Serena Sutcliffe , Cuisine & Wine Asia 2008 Very very dark. Sweet, spicy, liquorice nose. Very broad start to the palate and then dried fruits on the finish. Lots of firm tannins still. Still relatively embryonic. Heat on the finish. Lovely spice on the finish. Not the most stereotypically feminine Warre style of wine. Powerful finish. Almost brawny with some wild fruit and flower flavours on the nose. Still chewy. Jancis Robinson , Jancisrobinson.com 2006 This is a perfect example of the incredibly well-balanced and concentrated 1985 Vintage. This wine is packed with fruit on the nose and palate with a tight firm structure." The Wine Spectator 1988 Excellent colour. A lot of quality and depth here, marvellous fruit, real voluptuous depth, will be silky in time. Full body, quite some tannins but these are very ripe. A very stylish, elegant wine with excellent fruit. Clive Coates , The Vine WARRE has been making exceptionally fine Ports of late and their 1985 is the sweetest and richest of their recent Vintages. Extremely concentrated, rich, even luscious, this full bodied, intense, opulent wine has layers of fruit, a full blown bouquet and impeccable balance”. Robert Parker , The Wine Advocate 1987 Parker rating 90/100 (Outstanding)
