Italian: 1958 was a good year for Italian heavyweights such as Barolo and Brunello. which were built to last. Well stored examples of 1958 wines still make very good drinking today.
Port: 1958 ports represent a good year with some fragrant and
delicate Vintage Ports, despite the rather
damp weather conditions throughout.
Declared by some but not all the major
Port houses.

Barolo Borgogno - Riserva
Made with the Nebbiolo grape, Barolo is considered to be one of the finest types of wine in the world and is often refered to as 'the King of wines'. Borgogno is a renowned producer. The wine has tastes of cherries and a little currant, with a medium body and finish. Florals and spice come through on the nose, which is a little musty at first but then opens up beautifully on standing. Minerals and fruit develop on the palate, from a wine that has lasted well and is a credit to the Barolo name.

Sauternes Premiere Grand Cru Classe
Considered as the greatest white wine in the world, Château d'Yquem, located on a small hill, enjoys a microclimate and an exceptional terroir. The vineyard, which has no fewer than 150 parcels of different soil, is cherished throughout the year, each vine receives an average of 50 treatments per year. The selection is particularly rigorous for the grand vin of château d'Yquem: it is often said that a vine produces only one glass of wine . The harvest is carried out through at least four passes (seven in 1997!) to harvest the grapes at perfect ripeness, with the noble rot.
