Italian: An excellent vintage across the main regions of Piedmont and Tuscany. The wines produced exhibit a deep colour, rich intensity and have a good structure. The top quality Italian reds such as Barolo and Brunello are still drinking well today.
Bordeaux: An outstanding vintage that was overshadowed by legendary 1961 one! Consequently, it is one of the most underrated vintages still available. Good weather in the summer and harvest led to what, at the time was a record crop. The wines were delightful and well proportioned across all regions from the start and the top wines have maintained this quality to this day. The wines should last for a few more years.
Port: Not a general declaration, but some very good vintage and single quinta ports were made. Now fully mature, they still have good structure and finish and will last a few more years.

Pale ruby core, with extensive bricking. Quite a forward nose with notes of stewed, sweet cherries, proscuitto, liquorice and a touch of tar. The palate is very refined and round, velvety smooth with more notes of cherries, jam and chocolate. Great acidity and balance. Wonderful length. Slightly drying finish. After 30 mins in the glass opened up some more and added some truffle notes.

Amarone Bossi Reserva
Amarone della Valpolicella is the most prestigious wine from the Verona area and one of the most important Italian reds. Carefully selected grapes are dried on cane mats for 3 - 4 months before a lengthy maceration and 5 - 8 years in oak casks. It is this process that makes Amarone wines extremely long-lived. cinnamon, candied apples, cloves, vanilla, liqourice, cherries - a port like smell - very ripe berry fruit - incredible! Pippione Giovanni
Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's northwestern Piedmont region.
The 1962 Barbaresco is predominantly made from the nebbiolo grape which instills longevity into the wine. This wine a pale garnet core, some fruit remains on the nose alongside game, leather and forest floor notes. Wine develops fully after half an hour to reveal a hint of fruit alongside oak and dusty tannins. Whilst undoubtedly at the end of its drinking window, this wine does offer a pleasant surprise and would make an excellent gift for any 50th Anniversary.
