1992 Vintage Report

Bordeaux: 1992 Vintage Wine: Rain during the harvest produced wines of variable quality. The crop was enormous but most of the top vineyards adopted strict selection policies and discarded a large percentage of their crops. This led to wines that are characterised by being soft, fruity, and low in acidity level with light to moderate tannin levels and moderate to good concentration. The wines are now mature and should be drunk soon.

Port: 1992 Port: The vintage was declared by some port houses who produced some rich and concentrated wines. The port is still young in 2008 and will benefit from further cellaring.

Barolo, 1992

Fontanafredda

Brick red wine. Aromas of dank forest floor and barnyard. A few swirls of the glass revealed hints of old, worn saddle leather and fresh mushroom. Dark chocolate and wet earth filled out the palate. The tastes linger long after swallowing though. A long finish for an outstanding wine.

Chateau Gruaud Larose , 1992

St Julien 2me Cru Classe

*** 86 Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews: "The black/purple-colored 1992 gives evidence that Gruaud-Larose may have returned to the forceful, robust, muscular style that made the estate famous. In general, the 1992 vintage did not produce big, rich wines, but this effort from Gruaud-Larose is a reassuringly large-scaled, dense, powerful, rich, thick wine. The 1992 is more cleanly made than the leathery, "brett"-tinged 1991, exhibits gobs of earthy, rich, peppery, black currant, and herbal fruit flavors, low acidity, and a thick, chewy, lush finish. The wine's tannin is noticeable, but well integrated, making this wine appealing today, yet capable of 8-10 years of evolution" Robert Parker, Bordeaux 3rd Edition.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild , 1992

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

The 1992 Mouton has fashioned a flattering, soft, opulently-styled wine with medium body, a healthy dark ruby/purple color, and a big, fragrant nose of jammy cassis, smoky oak, and roasted herbs and nuts. The wine offers a sweet, expansive mid-palate and a lush, velvety-textured finish. It is an ostentatious, flashy Mouton. - Parker Wine Advocate, 1994

Taylor's Vintage Port, 1992

Vintage Port

*** 100 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
"Taylor's 1992 Vintage Port is unquestionably the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what vintage port can achieve. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up fabulously intense aromas of minerals, cassis, blackberries, licorice, and spices, as well as extraordinary purity and penetration. Yet this is still an unformed and infantile wine. If Chateau Latour made a late-harvest Cabernet Sauvignon, I suspect it might smell like this. In the mouth, the wine is out of this world, displaying layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits backed by well-integrated tannin and structure.

Dom Perignon, 1992

Champagne

Solid character of a developed Champagne. Dark gold color; delicate and persistent bubbles. Aromas of baked bread, brioche, and some notes of tropical fruits (far back). Structure was great, with good acidity. Intensity of flavors was quite good. Orange peel, some apricot. Medium+ finish.

Dow Vintage Port, 1992

Quinta do Bonfim (Half Bottle - 37.5cl)

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews

Robert Parker 93 points
“Dow's 1992 Quinta do Bomfim is an expressive, fragrant, up-front style of port with a pungent, peppery, floral, cassis-scented nose, full-bodied, rich, chewy, ripe flavors, light tannin, and sensational extract and length. The wine explodes on the back of the palate, announcing its considerable richness and intensity. This port should drink well young, and last for 30 years.”
Wine Spectator 92 points.
"Much better than from barrel. Perhaps better than Dow's blended 1991 vintage Port. This is big and concentrated, presenting masses of velvety tannins and intensely ripe violet, raspberry and cherry flavors.

Fonseca Vintage Port, 1992

Vinatge Port

Scoring 97 Parker Points a magnificent Port

Reviews "Fonseca has scored in both the 1991 and 1992 vintages. The 1992 is a majestic young port that should ultimately rival, perhaps even surpass this house's most recent great efforts (1985, 1977, 1970, 1963). This colossal vintage port reveals a nearly opaque black/purple color, and an explosive nose of jammy black fruits, licorice, chocolate, and spices. Extremely full-bodied and unctuously-textured, this multi-layered, enormously-endowed port reveals a finish that lasts for over a minute. It is a magnificent port that will age well for 30-40 years.
