Tasting Notes A masterpiece - even better than the outstanding 2015. Classic Pocas, drier and less sweet that the English shippers. Deep ruby colour. Aroma of great aromatic intensity where floral aromas predominate, ripe fruit and compote. Silky, elegant and balanced. Very expressive mouth with fruity and persistent finish. Tasted April 2019.

Serving Tips & Storage When mature this port will need to be decanted to remove sediment. Serve at room temperature on its own or with steak and blue cheese sauce or vintage mature blue cheeses such as stilton Cashel Blue, Roquefort, Gorgonzola and Saint Augur Blue. Vintage port is also good with chocolate - a flattering accompaniment to top quality hand-made chocolates and artisan chocolate bars. Please store on its side in a cool dark space away from heat and light. Drink from 2026-2060+.

Saturated, opaque black, with a narrow, purple rim. Inky, dusty, schist minerality and focused liqueur blackberries. Reticent. On the palate, intense and dense, baked blueberry and blackberry, with ink and a touch of violets. Lots of weight and intensity, with a rich, full-bodied palate and compact, fine, fairly firm tannins. Backward. (TJ)

The 2017 Vintage Port is a field blend from old vines aged for six months in wood and 16 months in stainless steel. It comes in with 123 grams of residual sugar. This was set for bottling in a few weeks, but it was the final blend. This is a terrific VP with a sexy demeanor. It is middle-of-the-road in terms of power—there's plenty, so it is no wimp—but it doesn't have astringency, and you can drink it relatively young. It leaves you feeling that the structure can easily support this as it ages, but it doesn't have to be cellared for 15 years if you don't want to do so. Then, it shows good concentration and a fruit-filled finish. As hard as it may be to keep your hands off of this still-serious Port, it would indeed help if you put it away for that 15 years. Power is less the issue than the need to acquire complexity. It should age well.
