Graham's, 2011

Vintage Port
*** 95-97 Points- Wine Advocate ***

The Graham’s 2011 Vintage Port Wine is a profound and complex wine of incredible intensity. Purple-black to the rim, this wine gives fine aromas of blue-violets, black China tea and ripe red fruit. On the palate, it offers an initial taste of powerful and vigorous fruit, merging into flavours of bitter black chocolate and fine acidity with balanced and mature, but not dry, tannins. The final flavour is clean and perfectly defined. This wine will age well, evolving into a finely balanced and elegant wine in the decades to come.

"Though the nose is very tight, there’s an attractive whiff of violets and black pepper.

Quinta do Vesuvio Capela, 2011

Capela Vintage Port

The Capela da Quinta do Vesuvio is made in years when truly exceptional wines are produced – the only prior release was in 2007.

The principal grape varieties chosen were again the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and the Sousão, all of which performed magnificently at Vesuvio in 2011. For the first time ever, Charles Symington included a small parcel of Alicante Bouschet in a Vintage Port. Through ongoing evaluation over the last few years, the Alicante Bouschet has shown itself to be a very impressive variety, contributing structure and colour, due to its intensely coloured berries.

The Touriga Nacional and the Alicante Bouschet were picked and fermented together on one lagar, as were the Sousão and Touriga Franca in early October.

Taylor Fladgate, 2011

Vintage Port
Half Bottle (37.5cl)

The 2011 Taylor's Vintage Port Wine is made only in exceptional years, following the rigorous selection and tasting process to meet the requirements for declaration. Historically Taylor's has only declared a maximum of 3 vintages per decade. 2011 has been hailed as a classic vintage by all accounts. Ideal ripening conditions in this year have led Fladgate wine-maker David Guimaraens to conclude that the 2011's 'stand out for the purity of the fruit and the quality of the tannins, which are silky and well integrated but provide plenty of structure. The 2011 vintage is textbook Taylor's in its structured aromatics and elegance (according to Fladgate Managing Director Adrian Bridge).

Vintage Port
Half Bottle (37.5cl)

Warre’s, 2011 Vintage Port – Half Bottle (37.5cl)

The 2011 vintage is widely regarded as one of the greatest Port declarations of modern times. A near-perfect growing season in the Douro Valley — with a wet winter, balanced spring and long, hot summer — produced exceptionally concentrated grapes with remarkable structure and freshness. The result was a universally declared vintage and wines of outstanding depth, balance and longevity.

Warre’s 2011 Vintage Port beautifully expresses the house’s signature style of elegance and refinement. The nose is rich with aromas of blackberry, cassis and dark plum, complemented by hints of violet, spice and dark chocolate.

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht, 2010

Gewürztraminer, Hengst Grand Cru, Alsace

The Hengst Grand Cru enjoys an old reputation for being the place to grow Gewurztraminer. The combination of a high lime content calcareous soil, some marl, a warm and dry setting, but not too precocious, provide the best conditions possible for this difficult grape variety. It was very saddening to see these old vines being hailed early July and in consequence, loose about half the crop. Perhaps the very small crop also allowed producing this wine? Who knows, but the result was a beautiful crop of dense, bright orange coloured grapes (modern clones are dark pink/red but less interesting). Interestingly, this wine fermented in two times, only finishing at the end of the 2011 harvest with a medium off dry sweetness.

Mahogany color, aroma a bit closed, with notes of marmalade, dried apricots and hazelnuts. Very well in the mouth, with class and is not being too oily, gives a good proof, elegant and good ending.-90 pts Wine Enthusiast-

Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle. Over time, it is natural that a little sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of Colheita Port wine.
