Barolo, 1970

Baldi, Barolo, Piedmont

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Barolo, 1970

Renato Ratti - Marcenesco

The 1970 vintage is considered one of the classic years of the 20th century for Barolo, marking a turning point in the region’s history. It was a warm, balanced growing season that delivered fully ripened Nebbiolo grapes with exceptional structure and longevity. Produced during the pioneering early years of Renato Ratti’s estate, this wine reflects his revolutionary approach to Barolo: careful vineyard selection, shorter maceration times, and a focus on elegance and terroir expression over sheer power. More than five decades on, the 1970 vintage stands as a remarkable example of traditional Barolo at its peak maturity.

Marchesi di Barolo, Barolo, Piedmont
*** BIG GALLON BOTTLE OF 3,78 LITERS ***

This wine from the good 1970 vintage is made with the long lived Nebbiolo grape. this is a black-skinned red wine grape variety most famous for creating the 'tar and roses' scent of Barolo wines from Piedmont, north-western Italy. Cantine Prandi, 1969

Cantine Prandi, Barolo, Piedmont - LAST LIBRARY STOCK

The 1969 Barolo Cantine Prandi have come from the producer's cellars where they have laid undisturbed since bottling.

Cantine Prandi was established in the 1920s when grandfather Farinetti Majorino envisioned selling part of the wine produced for family use to the commercial market. In the 1960's his nephew Giovanni came to lend a hand and was instrumental in shaping the winery and its future development. Up to 2009, Giovanni's son Alessandro looked after the beautiful vineyards situated in the long hills surrounding Piemonte. In recent years, due to Alessandro's passing, the winery ceased production.

Barolo, 1969

Luigi Calissano - Riserva Speciale, Barolo, Piedmont
Special Offer Was £169
Now £75

Appearance: pale garnet or amber colour, with a broad, tawny rim.
Nose: intensely aromatic and layered. Expect a bouquet of dried roses, potpourri, and old leather, typical of aged Barolo. Earthy and savoury notes like truffle, underbrush, and wet leaves would likely be prominent, along with hints of tobacco, cigar box, and perhaps a touch of menthol or eucalyptus.
Palate: smooth and harmonious, with tannins that have softened to a velvety texture. The acidity, while still present, would provide a balance that keeps the wine lively despite its age. Flavours of dried cherries, cranberries, and figs would dominate, intertwined with savoury elements like dried herbs, leather, and truffle.
