Taylor's Port, 1967
Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port (supplied with Plain Labels)
Perfumed, elegant and very attractive on the nose. Lively, tannic and massively fruity in the mouth. Lots of mid-palate activity, really attractive. Dry and tannic with a strong core of acidity that just makes the mouth water uncontrollably. A big but hot aftertaste with lots of black licorice dominating a long length. Very decent sipping wine and very enjoyable.

This rare port-wine has been stored in seasoned oak casks since the 1962 harvest until it was bottled this year.
Tasting Notes: The 1966 Port from Palmer has a light oak colour with a verdant edge on the rim highlighting a colheita of exceptional age and quality. Much elegance on the nose with orange peel, walnuts, figs and a touch of honey. On the palate there is a lightness that is balanced by a good acidity. This port wine delivers a beautiful flavour supported by a long, long finish. Outstanding.

1966 Croft Vintage Port, 1966
Vintage Port
A slightly deeper core compared to the ’63. The nose is very ripe with mulberry and tobacco with a hint of balsam, just lacking a little freshness and delineation. The palate is similar to the ’63, very well-balanced and cohesive, a slightly viscous texture, fresh and surfeit with joie-de-vivre and vivacity. Wild strawberry, lemongrass and fig towards the finish, this is certainly the “dark horse” of the decade and in my humble opinion, superior to the ’63. A little gem. Tasted November 2007. Barolo, 1966
Giacomo Damilano
Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Chateau Leoville Poyferre, 1966
St Julien 2me Growth Classification (MAGNUM Format 150cl)
Now fully mature, this medium-bodied, stylish wine has good black currant fruit, a complex, yet restrained bouquet of cedar and spices, and a good crisp, clean finish.
The vineyards at Leoville Poyferre originally formed part of the great Leoville estate. Following the death of Marquis de la Cases, the vast property was split into three; the Marquis’ son Jean-Pierre took the third that is now Leoville Las Cases, the Marquis’ daughter, Jeanne’s share became what we know as Leoville Poyferre following her marriage to the Baron de Poyferre and the final third was auctioned off and purchased by Hugh Barton. …

Chateau Margaux, 1966
Margaux Premiere Grand Cru Classe (Top shoulder, good label)
*** 91 points - Wine Journal ***
Review:
"this is a classic mature Claret that is delectable to drink now…and not too much later. There is a palpable coolness, almost aloofness on the nose that one often finds on this vintage, the overriding sense that this was a good vintage but not a hot one. It offers graphite, sous-bois and tobacco, the fruit having long ebbed away, yet it is still fresh and beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied and a little austere. Yet there is a sense of natural balance with fresh acidity and beguiling tertiary and cedar notes towards the finish. Wonderful. …

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1966
Pauillac 1st Growth Classification
Very top shoulder. Label bin soiled.
Robert Parker writes '... the dark garnet colour and classic sweet, spicy, tobacco, coffee, and black currant aromas are enticing. The wine still has powerful tannin in the finish, which contributes to the dry, austere character this example has always exhibited. One of the more intellectually-styled Moutons, the 1966 is a classic example of the vintage, as well as of the chateau's Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated style. Tasted 10/97 Bordeaux, 3rd Edition. Rating 90/100 (outstanding)

Chateau Yquem, 1966
Sauternes 1er Grand cru Classe
A good wine. On the nose, there is some orange marmalade, honey and spice character in this wine. Turns quite woody, with lots of caramel.
YQUEM HARVEST NOTES: Weather was mediocre in summer, but improved in autumn. The harvest was very long: 48 days' work out of 55 to bring in a very worthwhile and slightly above average crop in terms of volume. A very rich vintage.
