Taylor's Port, 1970

Vintage Port
Oporto bottled

Taylor's 1970 Vintage Port reviews.

99 points Wine Enthusiast
This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC) (2/2007)

98 points Vinous
The 1970 Taylor's Vintage Port has a tight nose, youthful with notes of liquorice, raisin, boot-polish and lemongrass. It is well defined and displays a little more intensity than the 1963.

Palmer Port, 1969

Single Harvest Tawny Port

*** 50cl Bottle ***

The 1969 Palmer Colheita Port has been a phenomenal bestseller for VWP. We have persuaded Palmer to make one final small batch. This will be the last batch ever made as stocks will then be exhausted.

Tasting Notes: The 1969 Palmer has a deep mahogany colour with olive highlights on the rim highlighting that this is a wine of great age. On the nose it has a very fine, elegant aroma of honey, caramel and butterscotch infused with a spicy redolence of black pepper and cinnamon. There are layers of complexity here with wild herbs and mint. The palate is perfectly balanced with a fresh acidity and sweetness.

Amarone della Valpolicella, 1969

Burti

This wine is made from grapes harvested in various vineyards located on hills in the Valpolicella zone (Mezzane and Tregnago hills). Different sources and different grape varieties are important to obtain well-balanced wines with the fine structure that only a few single areas in the Valpolicella zone can provide. Notes: Color: strong ruby red. Clear and transparent. Bouquet: notes of vanilla and ethereal airs depending on the period of aging in the barrel; notes of sweet fruits such as currants, blueberries, cherries depending on the varieties of grapes. Flavor: wine with a velvety, raisiny character combined with the structure and typical stylish bitterness to give it good balance.

Barbaresco, 1969

Giovanni Scanavino

Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's north-western Piedmont region. This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Nieve and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo. Barolo, 1969

Denegri Lorenzo

Barolo lies just south-west of Alba in Italy's north-western Piedmont region. It is considered one of the finest and longest-lived wines, often referred to as 'the king of wines and the wine of kings'. Wine production is strictly limited to the vineyards located on steep hills around the towns of Barolo, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba and Monforte d'Alba, Despite the different characteristics of these wines due to the varied terroir, they do display similar traits. These include a garnet color, powerful structure, firm tannins and high levels of acidity and alcohol, with the capacity to age for many years.

Barolo, 1969

Cossetti Clementi & Figli

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Chateau Cheval Blanc, 1969

St Emilion Premiere Grand Cru Classe

Nose retained some black fruit, healthy and concentrated. In the mouth it was exquisite, a fine mature Bordeaux with sweetness, lenght, concentration and good length. Thorougly enjoyable and not tired in the least!" Cellar tracker.com Deep mature colour. Amazingly good nose. Stables, leather, smoke, salt/mineral, cassis, tobacco and pencil/graphite. Stringent, lots of tannins, but still fruit that stand up to the tannins. On the palate this wine offers leather, coffee, tobacco, meat and blood. Quite light body, but very nice mouthfill and the finish is quite long - 25 to 30 sec. " cellartracker.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1969

Pauillac, 1er Grand Cru classe
High Shoulder

Lovely colour, mature but lively appearance; clean nose, lovely vinous warmth, cassis and cedar and mint, classic Pauillac; lovely and lively palate, cassis flavours, complete for a 1969, lively acidity in check; clean and dry finish, good length. Much better than the bottle from the same cellar tasted ten years ago. Rating applies to the first 15 minutes after opening, loses its definition very quickly after that.

*** 94 Points Cellar Tracker ***

Reviews
"There is always a high level of star gazing when a bottle of old Yquem shows up. Even an ok bottle like this makes you feel a million bucks. Dark caramel in colour. Apricots on the nose, sweet glycerin. On the palate it is well evolved full of ripe fruit, botrytis and although it is low in vitality it still makes for a superb experience. We can not be unbiased to the star gazing here but this is a good 94" CellarTracker.com
