Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1976
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
Mahogany core with deep brick rim. The nose is actually better than I anticipated with some dusty black fruits, cedar a touch of game, but it certainly lacks vigour and cohesion. The palate is a little tawdry, slightly hollow with an cooked character that jars against some obvious green berries that found themselves fermenting. Linear towards the dry finish, moderate length.

Chateau Cheval Blanc, 1975
St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classe A
*** 90 Points - Neil Martin Wine Journal ***
" this is a lovely Cheval Blanc with an expressive, open-knit nose, again more merlot-driven than cabernet franc with tertiary fruit inflecting the red-berried fruits with just a touch of mulberry and fresh fig. The palate is full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, touches of tar, orange rind and more dried herbs/cigar box coming through towards the finish. Drink now 2018" Neil Martin Wine Journal.

Chateau Gruaud Larose, 1975
St Julien 2me Cru Classe
Château Gruaud-Larose is a winery in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. It is also the name of the red wine produced by this property. The wine produced here was classified as one of fifteen Deuxièmes Crus (Second Growths) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.
The 1975 is a massive, backward wine that appears to resist aging. Still bitterly tannic, impressively-colored (dark garnet with no amber), and monstrous on the palate, this wine will either turn out like the outstanding 1928 and begin to reveal some charm and character around age 40. …

Margaux 3me Cru Classe
Dark ruby/garnet with some amber at the edge, the 1975 Malescot tastes mature. A lovely bouquet of ripe berry fruit, oak and spice is followed by a wine that is sweet, soft and savoury, with some unresolved tannins. It remains a bit chunky but is still satisfying and flavourful.

Chateau Rieussec, 1975
Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe
Sweet White Wine
** Robert Parker 90 Points **
Still remarkably youthful looking, and slow to evolve, this is a powerful, concentrated, and rich Sauternes, with decades of life ahead of it. Lemon, tropical fruit, and vanillin oaky aromas titillate the olfactory glands. Tight, yet rich, full-bodied flavors reveal marvelous balance and richness. It is aging at a snail's pace.
Château Rieussec is a prestigious Bordeaux wine estate located in the Sauternes appellation, within the Bordeaux wine region of France. The estate is well-known for producing sweet white wines, specifically Sauternes, which are crafted from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot. …

1973 Mission Haut Brion
It took a skilled winemaker to produce a good wine this year, and luckily those at this storied second label were successful. The winemaker called this "a good bottle from a difficult vintage," saying, "The abundant production of the year is evident in this wine. Above all it has been affected by the profuse rains during July and September. The color is light and rather developed. The ever-present woodiness is uncertain. As for the nose, one already has the feeling of a dominant old wine. The wine is light and agreeable at the attack but the finale is more delicate. …

Chateau Boyd-Cantenac, 1971
Cantenac Margaux 3rd Growth Classification
Since the early 1930s, Boyd Cantenac has been owned by the Guillemet family who also run the nearby Chateau Pouget. The proprietor actually resides at Chateau Pouget since there is no official chateau at Boyd Cantenac, and the wines are vinified and cellared in a warehouse adjoining Pouget. Despite this arrangement, the wines of Boyd Cantenac are always produced with an overriding sense of attention to detail. This wine has a crisp sage and onion spiciness and silky leathery tannins. Crisp, intense, soft and fragrant, very dry

On the decline yet still life. Fewer fruit notes and more tertiary notes. Forrest floor, truffles, meat, umami, chocolate. Very interesting and was fun to try to a 50th birthday celebration.
