Baron de Lustrac, 1910

Armagnac

Baron de Lustrac is a small traditional éleveur specialising in fine old Armagnac vintages. Their extensive range is sourced from neighbouring estates in the Tenereze and Mas Armagnac regions and they keep an ageing and bottling chais near Magnan, in the Bas Armagnac region. All Armagnacs are aged in 420ltr oak barrels and sold as single vintages. The grapes used are all harvested from the one particular year, and will only be distilled if the conditions were particularly good. Perfect for big birthdays or as a special drink for the connoisseur as they truly are a fine example of the very best Armagnac around.

Madeira, 1910

Barbeito bottled - Sercial

94 Points - Neal Martin - The Wine Advocate: "The 1910 Sercial has a tightly coiled bouquet with notes of walnut, nutmeg, white pepper and dried quince that demonstrates great clarity. The aromas become increasingly spicy in the glass, but never volatile. The palate is silky smooth, with laser-like acidity that slices through copious layers of dried honey, lemongrass, sour lemon, cumin and a touch of fennel. It has superb weight and presence, almost searing in sharpness towards the finish. This is an untamed, compelling Sercial."

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1908

Boal

*** 94 Points Robert Parker ***

"The 1908 Boal Reserva from D’Oliveiras is an unctuous, full-bodied wine loaded with dark maple syrup, tar, leather, licorice and sweet baking spices. There is superb density here and the wine shows terrific length in an intense style. The finish is long, bright and sweet." The Wine Advocate

Madeira is made on the volcanic island of the same name, situated in the Atlantic ocean some 400 miles off the North African coast. This sub-tropical island was discovered in 1419 by the Portuguese. Madeira is the Portuguese word for wood or timber.

This sweet, amber-tinged Madeira, has keen acidity and a long and mellow finish, with a certain delicacy.

Charles de Squeyre Armagnac, 1900

Armagnac

Armagnac is a grape brandy from the Gascony region of South-Western France. Its closest relative is cognac, another grape brandy from an appellation located about 100 miles north of Armagnac. Armagnac even though it is related to and often confused with cognac, armagnac is very different with regards to its grapes, terroir, distillation, élevage, blending, aromas, tastes and textures. In truth, France's two finest brandies made from wine are not very much alike at all. Armagnac pre-dates cognac by about 150 years but never achieved the widespread sales figures that its relatives in the Charente obtained.
