Delaforce, 1935

Vintage Port

Delaforce was founded in 1834, when John Fleurriet Delaforce was asked by his London employer to set up a new Port wine company for the partners of Martinez Gassinot. Delaforce rapidly became established as one of the leading Port wine companies developing its sales worldwide. Between 1894 and 1906 the company was distinguished with a warrant as supplier of Port wine to the Portuguese Royal Household. The company still exists today but was acquired by the Taylor-Fladgate Fonseca group in 2001.

Niepoort Port, 1935

Colheita Port

Reviews
1935 Niepoort Colheita Port – (bottled ,,,) – exceptionally perfumed nose, on the palate this is tremendous, the balance is perfection, round mouth-feel, incredibly long…even longer than the 1937! Nice high acid keeps this so fresh. Absolutely gorgeous wine with a delicious toasted pecan finish. The wine lacks nothing…it does not get better than this. Perfection! After we tasted this, Dirk told us it is his favourite Niepoort wine, and only a handful of bottles of this remain at the winery. 100 points - Roy Hersh = FortheLoveofPort.com

Rioja, 1935

Yago Condal Reserva

Had it not been for the distinct Spanish aromas of vanilla and dill, my guess would have been a very mature Bordeaux. It has the same green stalks vegetable soup, bell pepper and woody oak aromas. Medium acidity, with still some fruit and a dry, but round finish. Good intensity and length. A nice bottle of old Rioja!

Sandeman Vintage Port, 1935

Vintage Port (OB)

From the excellent 1935 Vintage, Bottled to commemorate George V Jubilee. The port is tawny with some red in colour. Showing little on the nose, perhaps some hints of concentrated redcurrant. Smooth and concentrated on entry; full bodied and with good weight. Blossoms beautifully in the mouth, develops and grows. Explodes on the aftertaste with huge fruit flavours dominating - mature and sweet. Incredible finish! An astonishing wine. After 5½ hours in the glass this had even developed hints of tannins!

Armagnac Castarede, 1934

Armagnac

This 1934 Castarede rmagnac has a shiny brown hue with a shimmering green tint. The nose is incredibly rich and elegant, with touches of spice, dry prune, orange peel and cinnamon. The spirit is well balanced and very frank in the mouth, while the tannins are soft and melted. Very spicy aromas of prune and liquorice erupt from the glass, then – after aeration – rancio and butter notes remain in the mouth: the finish is very long and rich.

This is the oldest Armagnac house where the family has traded from 1832 casks brought by carts from the Bas Armagnac region. For almost 50 years, Pont de Bordes first, then Condom will be the vital center in the Armagnac trading.

Niepoort Port, 1934

Colhieta Port 1934 Vintage

99 Points Robert parker

Reviews
"The 1934 is an example of a wine in bottle a long, long time—fortunately
Niepoort’s Colheitas do have normal, long corks. If this handsome beast is this
dense, concentrated and powerful now, I can barely imagine what it must have
been like when it was bottled. My mouth waters to think of it. Remember, too,
that this had less than 50 years in cask. What would a version bottled today be
like? Besides the notable concentration and viscosity, it has powerful acidity to
cut through its palate and make it seem bright and vibrant as well, with some
brandy in the background.

Rutherford and Miles Madeira, 1934

Bual Madeira

The firm that was eventually to become Miles Madeira was originally known as Rutherford & Brown, established on the Island of Madeira in 1814.

In 1856 Henry Price Miles left England with his family and arrived in Madeira. Having worked as an apprentice since the age of 12 under the tutelage of James Rutherford, he acquired sound knowledge and experience of the workings of the Madeira trade. In 1872, the Rutherfords left for London (due to Phylloxera which decimated most of the vineyards in Madeira) and started up a wine importing business at the Old Trinity House in Waterlane. This prompted
