Single Quinta Vintage Port

This is a special treat at the end of the evening. Murky copper coloured with a rich intense raisoned nose with bay leaf and hints of brandy butter and caramel. The palate is full and powerful but with a surprising freshness and lift. Dense and flavoursome with rich dark coffee, cloves, chocolate and toffee apple flavours. Armagnac 1947 Vintage

The 1947 Janneau Armanac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

On the nose chocolate, butter scotch, toffee, coffee, roses and tea lead to a full bodied, soft tannin palate with a lovely balancing acidity. A superb rare port from 1947!

Tuke Holdsworth was the brand name of the old shipper Hunt Roope & Teage, the former owners of Quinta da Eira Velha. The company was sold to Ferreira in 1956 but the quinta was retained by the family and from that point it supplied wines to Martinez and Cockburn.

Vouvray Mark Bredif

Deep gold colour. Multilayered aromas of flowers, spices, peaches, citrus, kumquats, and tangerines are followed by excellent balance between its sweetness and acidity. This is sweet but not cloying, with a smooth velvety texture and a long finish with the layered flavours persisting all the way through.

A fabulous finish to a meal can be enjoyed slightly chilled with cheeses or fruity desserts such as lemon méringue pie, mince tarts or pumpkin pie.

Baron de Lustrac is a small traditional éleveur specialising in fine old Armagnac vintages. Their extensive range is sourced from neighbouring estates in the Tenereze and Mas Armagnac regions and they keep an ageing and bottling chais near Magnan, in the Bas Armagnac region.

Produced in the traditional style on copper pot stills and aged in a combination of oak barrels and glass bonbons, Baron de Lustrac produce some of France`s finest vintage bottlings.

This wine possesses all the attributes of a great vintage of its generation. Having remained very young for so long, it now seems to us to be at its peak.

A much deeper colour than the ’42 as one would expect. Quite limpid for a 62-year old with a lovely, elegant nose of ginger, leather, figs, almond and black cherries in the background. Very refined with a sedate feel to it. The palate is just sublime with perfect acidity, rich and decadent for Croft and in a sense, riper than the ’35 thanks to the Indian summer? Powerful, spicy and almost decadent towards the finish with wild honey, heather, fig, raisin and liquorice. Very long – this ’45 flirts with perfection. A gorgeous ’45 port.

Delaforce was founded in 1834, when John Fleurriet Delaforce was asked by his London employer to set up a new Port wine company for the partners of Martinez Gassinot. Delaforce rapidly became established as one of the leading Port wine companies developing its sales worldwide. Between 1894 and 1906 the company was distinguished with a warrant as supplier of Port wine to the Portuguese Royal Household. The company still exists today but was acquired by the Taylor-Fladgate Fonseca group in 2001.

Renowned as one of the great Port producers, Fonseca's vintage wine is among the best in virtually every widely declared vintage. The house style is flamboyantly rich, even exotic, and the wines are usually sweeter and fuller in body than those from most other producers.

The 1945 Fonseca is a top wine from one of the top vintages of the 20th century, a hot year with low yield.
