Chateau Calon Segur, 1964

3ème Cru Classé Saint Estèphe

The 1964 Calon Segur has a mature mahogany hue with tawny rim, the nose is fully mature with aromas of Chinese 5-spice, molasses, mint and cedar, lacking the clarity of a great ’61. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine, sturdy tannins, still earthy but dominated by decayed, mushroom fruit and sous-bois on the finish. Still utterly enjoyable, but beginning to show its age. Drink now.

Graham's Port, 1963

Vintage Port
Grants of St James Label

An outstanding 1963 Port scoring 96/100 Parker Points.

Reviews: "What a stunning 1963 vintage port this is! The bouquet draws you in, does not drag you in with its alcohol and reveals a fresh, well defined nose with a nutty edge, hints of cigar box and allspice. The palate is beautifully balanced, understated on the entry but building all the time, flashes of eucalyptus leading towards a more extrovert, clove tinged finish that hangs around the palate like an obsessed ex-girlfriend. Gorgeous Grahams! Tasted May 2009." Neil Martin, Wine Journal

Taylor's Port, 1963

Vintage Port- MAGNUM
Excellent Provenance

Ruby highlights surviving in the colour. Deep, intense, Burgundian richness. At first the spirit is rather overpowering. Then dark chocolate starts appearing, followed by herbal, gum cistus, licorice, cigar box, leathery quality really comes through in the mouth and a slightly medicinal character. Medium length.

This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades.

Chateau Durfort Vivens, 1962

Margaux 2nd Growth Classification

Medium garnet in colour with yellowing and bricking towards the rim. This is very much alive. Wet leaves, forest floor, sweet tobacco, raspberry, red cherry, vanilla, and white flowers on the nose. There is a lot of sweetly perfumed classic Margaux aromatics. Secondary and tertiary notes dominate but there is still a lot of fruit left here leading to a nice long finish.

Quinta do Noval Nacional, 1962

Nacional- Vintage Port
***98 Points- Extraordinary!***- Robert Parker

***98 Points- Extraordinary!***
Robert Parker Jr. Wine Advocate #107/Oct 1996***

Remarkably, the 1962 Nacional exhibited an even more opaque color than the 1970, as well as exquisite richness and concentration. Massive (but not in the Taylor style), this phenomenally concentrated, complex, still youthful vintage port is a tour de force in winemaking, and one of the greatest, can you believe this, young vintage ports I have ever tasted. This wine needs another 5-10 years to reach full maturity as neither the color nor aromatics reveal much development. It could easily have one-hundred years of longevity.

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 1961

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe
Mid to upper shoulder level

ROBERT PARKER: 95
Still a spectacular wine, the 1961 defies mortality. It has been at its peak for nearly 15 years, yet it shows no signs of losing its fruit and drying out. The color is a dark garnet with orange/amber at the edge. The profound bouquet has the magnetic allure that leaves great Bordeaux unmatched for complexity. Sweet notes of dried fruits, herbs, tobacco, smoke, and roasted meats are followed by an opulently-textured, thick, nearly viscous wine with high glycerin, ripe, jammy fruit, and an intoxicating combination of glycerin, extract, and suppleness. The wine holds in the glass without cracking up, and has a good 40-45 second finish.

Chateau d'Yquem, 1960

Sauternes Premiere Grand Cru Classe

Exceptional provenance - professionally stored since purchase

Tasted in April 2005. Light amber. It impressed from first drop with intense and deep nose of rasp honey and brown sugar. On the palate, it appeared very concentrated with candied fruit, delicious structure and sweet aftertaste. This was distinguished and enchanting wine with style, class and vitality. Should maintain all its goodies for additional 15 years. Review on Greatbordeauxwines.com Rating 94 points

Chateau Montrose, 1959

St Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe, Bordeaux
*** 93 Points Robert Parker (NM) ***

*** 93 Points Robert Parker (NM) ***

Reviews: "Tasted at the Montrose vertical in Stamford, the 1959 Montrose out-performed the 1961. It displayed a rich, deep red color with some bricking on the rim commensurate with age. The bouquet is winsome: black and red fruit, dried herbs, chlorophyll and rose petals that gently unfurl. The palate is medium-bodied with notes of cedar and damp earth, commendable depth of fruit and quite structured for a 1959. No, not a sumptuous old Claret, perhaps a little serious, yet this 1959 Montrose is just full of elan and will continue to drink well for a decade if bottles are of sound provenance.

eRobertParker.com #223 Mar 2016***

Review:
The 1957 Colheita Tawny Port was seen before, but it's worth revisiting in the USA, since it's a great wine. This is also the new 2015 bottling. It has 127 grams per litre of residual sugar. It is stunning how youthful this is. Lush and rich on opening, it has mature flavours that emerge, easily demonstrating the complexity and concentrated aromatics one expects. Gripping on the finish, this delivers fruit flavour and seems to linger indefinitely.

Chateau Latour, 1955

Pauillac Premiere Grand cru Classe.
Upper shoulder

94 points (Parker)
Reviews: "A spectacular Latour, from a vintage that has provided many superb surprises (especially in the Medoc and Graves), the deep garnet-colored 1955 reveals some amber at the edge. It remains tannic, but its extraordinary perfume of smoked meats, dried herbs, cedar, black fruits, underbrush, and leather is seductive. It is full-bodied, with a sweet, intense mid-palate, plenty of power, and decades of life remaining. This is an under-rated, stunning Latour that may even improve. Anticipated maturity: now-2020" Parker, Wine Advocate, 2000.

"Mahogany core with tawny rim.

Chateau Montrose, 1955

St Estephe 2eme Cru Classe

*** 95 Points Robert Parker (NM) ***

Reviews: "the 1955 Montrose is a legendary vintage for the estate. Certainly my solitary encounter several years ago was off the charts, a view since vindicated by others lucky enough to have encountered it. Certainly here, the 1955 had an amazing, deep, almost refulgent color with a thin tawny rim. The bouquet was very intense with dark berry fruit, bergamot, Earl Grey and even dried honey, unusually opulent for this normally quite foursquare vintage. The palate is swarthy and structured with great depth and balance. One or two commented upon the volatility of this wine and true, this upended the finish, blurring the edges.

Cantine Antonio Ferrari, 1949

Il 49 di Antonio Ferrari

The Il Barone ‘49 shows a deep garnet colour. For something so old it is still fresh with a touch of oxidation on notes of black cherries, chocolate and espresso infused with sweet spices. The wine has a long finish. This is a wine from the 1949 wine harvest. Fermentation was arrested before complete leaving a high residual sugar content which has preserved the wine. The wine then went into large old Slovenian casks for ten years and then stored in tanks where it has remained until bottling this year. Antonio Ferrari was a wine merchant and negociant in Piedmont who in the mid-20th century developed an interest in the grapes of Puglia.

Kopke, 1940

Colheita Port, Douro, Limited Edition (Night)
In Limited Edition Presentation Box
97/100- Wine Enthusiast

1940 Kopke Single Harvest Tawny Port
The year is 1940, we are in the Douro valley,in the ancient Quinta de São Luiz. 1940 was a difficult year, but the quality of the berries suggested a long life for the wines of this harvest.Over the next decades and generations, there were many opportunities and sustained pressure to launch this nectar onto the market. The world changed and societies evolved. Despite all this, this wine was kept for 80 long years in a cellar that resisted time. But all good things come to those who wait. That patience, together with the terroir and the mastery of ageing wines in wood has transformed this wine into a unique experience.
