This stunning 2022 white wine from Quinta Das Carvalhas is a blend of the indigenous varieties of the Douro Valley, Viosinho, Rabigato and Côdega de Larinho. It shows fine and delicate but intense aromas of citrus and stone fruit with hints of vanilla and toast from ageing in wood. Although full-bodied on the palate, it provokes a feeling of lightness due to its freshness of flavours and lively acidity, ending with a very clean and refreshing aftertaste. 'Cordon Cut' refers to a complex, highly risky process requiring both skill and experience, which involves cutting the vine canes when the grapes are ripe, allowing the remaining fruit to concentrate and raisin naturally on the vine. Given that the stone terraces are comprised of just a limited number of vines, the quality does not always align with the pattern of classic Vintage Port declarations - as was their assessment for 2021 and they are not producing any classic Vintage Ports from this year. …
