Sauternes, Non Vintage

Abbaye du Roi (believed from the '60s)

The queen of sweeteness…

An exceptional micro-climate and man's expertise have created a sweet wine whose name is enough to stimulate the taste buds of wine lovers all over the world: Sauternes. The white grapes, Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle, are harvested late to significantly increase their sugar content. Even after vinification, this gives the wine its unequalled sweetness.

The golden colour progressively slides towards amber and the floral and fruity aromas blend to celebrate a complex and balanced bouquet comprising lime blossom, almond, quince and passion fruit. This wine is captivating with its elegant sweetness and exceptional aromas.

Tasting Notes
A small area at the heart of the Quinta do Noval vineyard planted with ungrafted vines and untouched by phylloxera. The word “Nacional” refers to the fact that the vines are Portuguese vines growing in Portuguese soil with no foreign root stock, and are therefore “attached to the soil of the Nation”. This great wine is a source of pride to the people of Portugal, and at its best the finest expression of the extraordinary terroir of Quinta do Noval.

Warre's Port, 2016

Vintage Port - 1x37.5cl HALF Bottle

Featured as no. 14 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of 2018 the Warre's 2016 vintage port offers delicate floral aromas of violets and rockrose. On the palate defined aromas of blackberries, blueberries and cherrries are harmoniously complemented by the acidity and long, sweet and elegant finish. This is a wine for the long term.

Warre’s Vintage Ports are peerless in their expression of poise and elegance. Whereas some other Vintage Ports can be almost overwhelming in their richness, Warre’s Vintage wines combine elegance, length and balance whilst still retaining the underlying rich opulence of great Vintage Port.

Graham's Port, 2013

Late Bottled Vintage Port in Gift Tubes

The 2013 Graham´s Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) is a superb wine, selected from the finest production of a very good year. Whereas vintage Port spends two years in casks and then matures in bottle, LBV is matured in seasoned oak and then bottled at between four and six years of age; hence the term, ‘Late Bottled’. Its ageing process encourages the wine’s development; at the time of bottling it is therefore ready for drinking without the need for decanting.

Graham´s LBV represents centuries of experience and craftsmanship and is a reflection of the people who contribute to the making of the wine in the vineyard, the cellars, the cooperage and the tasting room, as well as the Graham´s Lodge where it ages since shortly after the harvest.

Calem Port, 2011

Vintage Port Single Bottle in individual presentation box as illustrated

*** 93-95 Points Robert Parker ***
*** 92 Points Wine Spectator ***

With exceptional 92 points, 2011 Cálem Vintage Port is a wine that, according to Kim Marcus, of Wine Spectator, reveals flavours of "black plums, blackberries and cherries" that "vibrate on the palate" with intense notes of "dark chocolate and spices." This Vintage Port suggests a "powerful control", the result of nobles and "structured tannins", extending the finish. According to Kim Marcus, this is a Vintage Port that follows the "traditional style of wines that need time," and recommends drinking it ideally after 2018.

Fonseca Port, 2011

Vintage Port 75cl Bottle

Fonseca declares its vintages only in the most exceptional of years, and in 2011, like many, Fonseca benefitted from a perfect ending to the growing season, ensuring optimum ripeness for their grapes. This allowed deep, powerful and aromatic wines to be made on each of the Fonseca Quintas in the Távora and Pinhão valleys. 2011 has thus given Fonseca another opportunity to express the best characteristics of its vintage port to conoisseurs: its concentration of black fruits, its firm tannic grip, its dense velvety texture and its vibrant aromatics. It bears the promise of many years of development in bottle.

Taylor's Port, 2011

Vintage Port MAGNUM

Taylor's Vintage Port is made only in exceptional years, following the rigorous selection and tasting process to meet the requirements for declaration. Historically Taylor's has only declared a maximum of 3 vintages per decade. 2011 has been hailed as a classic vintage by all accounts. Ideal ripening conditions in this year have led Fladgate wine-maker David Guimaraens to conclude that the 2011s 'stand out for the purity of the fruit and the quality of the tannins, which are silky and well integrated but provide plenty of structure. The 2011 vintage is textbook Taylors in its structured aromatics and elegance (according to Fladgate Managing Director Adrian Bridge).

2010 Chateau d'Yquem

Sale

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe
Special Offer | was £525 | Now £335

The 2010 Ch Yquem displays a fabulous clean, pure sweetness, with aromas of citrus peel honey and apricot, and not a hint of any cloying character. The finish is very long and, while not as opulent as 2007 or as profoundly complex as 2001, the wine is very much more in the register of elegance, and thus bears comparison with the lovely 1988.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2009

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

*** 99+ Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
The main reason the 2009 Lafite Rothschild did not receive a perfect score is because the wine has closed down slightly, but it is unquestionably another profound Lafite, their greatest wine since the amazing 2003. Among the most powerful Lafites ever made (it came in at 13.59% alcohol), the final blend was 82.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot. The selection was incredibly severe with only 45% of the crop being utilized. A tight, but potentially gorgeous nose of graphite, black currants, licorice and camphor is followed by a full-bodied wine revealing the classic elegance, purity and delineated style of Lafite.

Messias Port, 2009

10 Year Old White Port

A fairly rare style of port, the 10 years old white is characterised by skin contact and oxidative maturation. It is made in the same way as aged tawnies, with slow aging in pipes in the Messias lodges. The white grapes undergo a long period of skin maceration and are foot trodden. Following the addition of grape brandy, the White Port spends a year in large oak vats, followed by ageing in traditional oak pipes for a period of between 7 and 15 years.

Chateau Brane Cantenac, 2008

Reviews:
This stunning, evolved, dark plum/ruby-hued 2008 reveals aromas of forest floor, sweet black and red currants, licorice and roasted herbs. Classic, elegant and medium to full-bodied, it provides a sexy, complex, intellectual as well as hedonistic turn-on. Drink this delicious Margaux over the next 12-15+ years. Score: 92 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194), May 2011

The 2008 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 28% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 70% Cabernet Sauvignon. There remains that eucalyptus tincture that I have picked up on previous bottles,

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2008

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

*** 98 Points Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
"A candidate for the -wine of the vintage,- the 2008 should have been purchased before it began to soar in value because of the significance of the number 8 in the Chinese culture (denoting good luck). Representing 40% of the production, this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc offers aromas of high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, earth, cedar and asphalt. Full, rich and stunningly concentrated, I doubt it is inferior to the 2010, just more classic as well as slightly more forward and a degree weaker in alcoholic potency (12.5% versus 13.
