Chateau Larmande, 1997

St Emilion Grand Cru Classe

Dark ruby with even some purple. Complex bouquet with fruit, vanilla and caramel. Full bodied, velvety wine with enough tannin and acidity. Also vanilla and roasted almonds in the taste. Very good juicy wine. Now ready, but with enough power to keep for a few more years.

Fonseca Port, 1997

Vintage Port

*** 93 Points Robert Parker ***
Deep inky ruby with a broad red rim just turning to brick at the edge. Generous and seductive nose redolent of blackcurrant and cherry. Dense, luscious black fruit laced with dark chocolate, liquorice and roasted coffee. Exotic herbal and resiny scents emerge an hour after decanting. Later the fruit becomes more luscious and creamier, with rich raspberry jam flavours overlaying the dark fruity base. The full round palate is supported by thick well-integrated tannins and delivers an abundance of luscious chocolate and blackcurrant flavour which lingers into the long velvety finish.

Chateau Grand Pontet, 1996

St Emilion

90-91 points outstanding - Robert Parker

"This up and coming St.-Emilion is somewhat under-rated given the consistently high quality of recent vintages. The 1996 is a flamboyant, dark ruby/purple-colored wine with a soaring bouquet of plum liqueur, toasty new oak, black cherries, smoke, and dried herbs. In the mouth, evidence of sur-maturite jamminess and richness emerge from this medium-bodied, rich, spicy, impressively-endowed wine. There is tannin in the medium to full-bodied finish." - RP

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1996

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

94 Points - Parker
95 Points - Wine Journal

Reviews
"This estate's staff believes that the 1996 Mouton-Rothschild is very complex. I agree that among the first-growths, this wine is showing surprising forwardness and complexity in its aromatics. It possesses an exuberant, flamboyant bouquet of roasted coffee, cassis, smoky oak, and soy sauce. The impressive 1996 Mouton-Rothschild offers impressive aromas of black currants, framboise, coffee, and new saddle leather. This full-bodied, ripe, rich, concentrated, superbly balanced wine is paradoxical in the sense that the aromatics suggest a far more evolved wine than the flavors reveal.

Corvo, 1996

Duca Salaparuta

Corvo, a classic Sicilian wine, is produced from Sicilian vines cultivated on warm, sunny hills. Aged in oak barrels it is distinguished by its round, full-bodied and persistent flavour. Together with Corvo Bianco, Corvo Rosso was the first wine to be bottled in Sicily, back in 1824, and is now the best known red wine in Italy thanks to its excellent quality/price ratio and consistent quality. Extremely versatile, it goes well with grilled and roast meats and medium-aged cheeses.

Taylor's Port, 1996

Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port -HALF BOTTLE 37.5 cl

Very typical Taylor's style on the nose, rather reserved, spicy and stylish fruit. Gentle, and a lovely silkiness to at the start. Fine fruit, very stylish composition. Appropriate grip and texture. Lots of tannin evident on a second taste. This is rather good. From a Port Styles tasting. 16.5-17+/20 (Wine Doctor 2007).

Perrier Jouet, 1995

Belle Epoque Vintage Champagne

Pale yellow with gold hints; notes of caramel, leaves, lightly roasted nuts, apple skin, slight oxidation; on the palate still some effervescence bubbles faded rather quickly, pleasing notes of sour apple, burnt caramel, musty chalk; medium body, good lifted acidity with a slightly rich caramel apple note, long in the mouth. Really nice, excellent condition.

Pinot Noir, 1995

Robert Mondavi Carneros, USA

92 Points - Cellar Tracker
A beautifully aged Burgundy-esque Pinot that has an immediate floral aroma upon opening. Delightfully drank all 3 bottles with a few friends who all agreed that the its 20 years in hiding was well worth the wait. Perhaps a bit light, but still had plenty of core flavor

1994 Ferreira, 1994

Late Bottled Vintage Port - HALF BOTTLE 37.5cl
Includes original gift box

Special release from the Ferreira Cellars.

When a wine is as dense, plummy and pretty as this, you're in business. It's somewhat round and fat, but it's rightly balanced by driving cherry fruit and bitter chocolate. An LBV rich enough to top off vanilla ice cream yet vital enough to be drunk by the glass is a good thing to have in the house.

Chateau du Tertre, 1994

Margaux

Ch. du Tertre’s 1994 is a very successful effort in a difficult vintage. The 1994 shows a dark plum/ruby colour with a little lightening at the edge. A nose of roasted herbs intermixed with black cherry, plum, fig, and currant also has a hint of chocolate and earth. Medium-bodied, with ripe but noticeable tannin, excellent definition.

Chateau Latour, 1994

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

This is an interesting as well as great vintage for Latour. As indicated in my barrel tasting report, Latour's 1994 possesses an atypically high percentage of Merlot (27%) in the final blend. Because of this, the wine appears to have a sweeter, more fleshy texture than is typical for a young Latour, but do not make the mistake of thinking this will be a commercially-styled, easy to drink wine. It exhibits an opaque dark ruby/purple color, and a backward, intense textbook nose of walnut and cassis scents complemented by smoky pain grille notes that build in the glass. This full-bodied, powerful, layered Latour reveals high tannin, but no bitterness or astringency.

Chateau Leoville Barton, 1994

St Julien 2eme Cru Classe

90 Points - Outstanding - Robert Parker

Reviews:
"It is no secret that Anthony Barton's efforts over the last decade at his St.-Julien estate, Leoville-Barton, is resulting in terrific wines at still reasonable prices. This estate has been extremely successful in recent vintages. An impressive, serious, classic Bordeaux for collectors who are willing to forget about it for at least a decade, this well-endowed offering is a 30-year wine. The dense, murky, purple color, closed aromatics, massive flavor richness, and high tannin recall the old, non-compromised, beefy, blockbuster Medocs produced thirty years ago.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1994

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 91 Points - Robert Parker ***

The 1994 appears to be the finest Mouton-Rothschild made following the 1986 and before the 1995's conception. The wine exhibits a dense, saturated purple color, followed by a classic Mouton nose of sweet black fruits intermingled with smoke, pain grillee, spice, and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, a layered feel, plenty of tannin, and rich, concentrated fruit, this wine is similar to the fine 1988. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025. By the way, the Dutch artist, Appel, has created a gorgeous label for the 1994. Although Mouton-Rothschild can be among the most inconsistent first-growths,

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1994

Chateau de Beaucastel

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***

Wonderful nose: morello cherry and ripe peach. Well-balanced and quite smooth and chewy on the herbaceous palate. Good acidity although rather dilute towards the end. Not the best Beaucastel but good for the vintage.

Medium garnet. An amazingly expressive bouquet that wafts out of the glass: damp soil, leather, farm & barn, drying cranberries, white flowers, and honeysuckle. On the palate it is complex with subtle earth tones and some strawberry. Truly magnificent. **CellarTracker Review**

Chateauneuf du Pape, 1994

Chateau de Beaucastel Pierre Perrin

Château de Beaucastel has long been considered one of the great wines of France. It is unanimously renowned for its balance, elegance and ageing potential. Beaucastel has an extraordinary terroir at the Northern end of the appellation with heavy exposure to the Mistral. All 13 varieties of the appellation have been organically grown here since the sixties.

1994 was a good year for Rhone Wines and the Beaucastel has striking colour. The nose is profound and sweet, with black truffle, under-wood, and earthy notes. The mouth is fruity, fleshy and round, with soft tannins. It can be drunk but will improve with time.

Cockburn Port, 1994

Vintage Port

Cockburn's is one of the most recognised names in Port; the Special Reserve ruby is probably one of the most widely distributed Port brands available. In 1815, the year that Wellington defeated Bonaparte at Waterloo, the business was established by Robert Cockburn, who had visited Portugal when serving in Wellington's army.

The 1994 Cockburn performed on a par with the likes of Taylor, Graham and Fonseca. It is a classic port and undoubtedle their best since 1977. There is elegance and masses of concentrated fruits, and a dry and excessively long finish.

Dow's Port, 1994

Vintage Port

** 97 Points Lisa perotti Brown - in Asia **
** 96 points Robert Parker **

Reviews
"Deep garnet colour. The nose is just beginning to evolve into musky, dried plum and raisin aromas with whiffs of tree bark, nutmeg, cumin and cloves. The palate is seriously big and voluptuous with medium to high acidity and a medium to firm level of fine tannins. Very long finish." In Asia.

"The massive 1994 is unquestionably the finest Dow I have tasted since the 1977. This opaque purple-colored wine is not as developed or flamboyant as Fonseca, but it is super-concentrated and multi-layered, with huge masses of fruit and some tannin in the finish.

Fonseca Port, 1994

Vintage Port (Half Bottle - 37.5 cl)

*** 97 Points - Parker ***

reviews: "One of the most spectacular 1994s, this opaque purple-colored wine is an exotic, flamboyant, ostentatious port. Extremely fragrant and pungent, with a flashy display of jammy cassis, pepper, licorice, and truffles, this port is an attention-grabber. Awesomely rich, and full-bodied, with superb length, richness, and overall balance, it possesses a huge mid-palate, layers of flavor, an unctuous texture, and a blockbuster finish. Everything is in place, with the brandy and tannin well-integrated, even concealed by the masses of fruit and glycerin. This wine will drink fabulously well at age ten, but keep for up to thirty years".

Graham's Port, 1994

Vintage Port

96 Points (parker)

Reviews: "In a port tasting, tasting Graham's is almost like tasting a big, rich, succulent Merlot after a group of blockbuster, tannic Cabernets. Sweeter and more obvious than many ports, the opaque purple-colored 1994 is fruity, powerful, and rich, with an addictive hedonistic quality. It will be ready to drink in 8-10 years and keep for up to 30. As always, this is a showy, flamboyant port that has the advantage of being slightly sweeter than other 1994s. A great Graham's. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2035." Parker Wine Advocate 1996
