Perfumed, elegant and very attractive on the nose. Lively, tannic and massively fruity in the mouth. Lots of mid-palate activity, really attractive. Dry and tannic with a strong core of acidity that just makes the mouth water uncontrollably. A big but hot aftertaste with lots of black licorice dominating a long length. Very decent sipping wine and very enjoyable.

Tokaji, 1967
Szamoredni Szaraz (Half-Liter. 50cl)
Hungary’s most famous dessert wine is Tokaji the legendary sweet elixir. It can only be spoken in the superlative about this wine, as it is a medicine, a real nectar. The name Tokaji (which is of Protected Designation of Origin) is used for labelling wines from this wine district. The location of the region has a unique climate, beneficial to this particular viniculture, due to the protection of the nearby mountains, long warm autumns and mists that come in from the River Bodrog, creating perfect conditions for noble rot. Creating the botrytised ('aszú') grapes for which the region is famous. A wonderful sweet wine from this renowned producer. …

D'Oliveiras Madeira, 1966
Verdelho Madeira
D’Oliveira Verdelho Madeira 1966 is a stunning example of the age-worthy magic of Madeira and a benchmark for the Verdelho style. Produced by Pereira d’Oliveira, one of the most revered and traditional houses on the island, this wine was aged in old oak casks in their Funchal lodges for decades before bottling — a slow, oxidative ageing process that concentrates the wine’s flavors while maintaining remarkable freshness and balance.
Verdelho sits stylistically between the drier Sercial and the sweeter Bual and Malmsey styles, offering a medium-dry profile that is both vibrant and complex. By the time the 1966 vintage was bottled (often in the early 2000s), the wine had developed a deep amber hue with greenish tinges at the rim. …

There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. …
