Warre's Vintage Port, 1960

Vintage port
Damaged Label

** 90 Points Wine Spectator **

This wine is now beginning to reach its full maturity and is likely to be ready for drinking. As it ages further, it will begin to develop gently into a more tawny style wine. Intense, structured with a nice soft finish." Almost perfect in its maturity. Still delicious.

"A powerhouse port that has been mellowed and opened up by time. Now in its 43rd year, its tannins have softened to reveal dark fruit flavors, herbaceousness and plenty of grip in the finish." Wine Spectator, 2003.

"Masses of rich plums and prunes on the flavour. So rich – such a surprise.

Tokaji, 1957

Szamorodni - Borforgalmi - Half Bottle of 0,5 Liters

Hungary’s most famous dessert wine is Tokaji the legendary sweet elixir. It can only be spoken in the superlative about this wine, as it is a medicine, a real nectar. The name Tokaji (which is of Protected Designation of Origin) is used for labelling wines from this wine district. The location of the region has a unique climate, beneficial to this particular viniculture, due to the protection of the nearby mountains, long warm autumns and mists that come in from the River Bodrog, creating perfect conditions for noble rot. Creating the botrytised ('aszú') grapes for which the region is famous. A wonderful sweet wine from this renowned producer.

Tokaji, 1956

Asju Essencia (Half litre, 50cl)

This 1956 Tokaji Aszu Essencia is a sweet wine of stunning concentration and complexity. A rich complex wine with incredibly deep concentration, bitter oranges, ginger, manuka honey aromas and flavours can be found, but though super sweet it is perfectly balanced with succulent citrus acidity. Harmony, balance and depth are absolutely world class.

After the Essencia, the Aszú Essencia (often confounded with the Essencia) is the second highest quality level among Tokaj wines. Its preparation is the same as that for the Aszú, and it is produced only in excellent years. The quality level is not indicated anymore by the number of puttonyos.

Taylor's Port, 1955

Vintage Port
Mackinlay Bottling

Taylors 1955 Vintage Port.
Review
The only vintage Taylor’s declared in the 1950s. According to the Fladgate Partnership, ‘one of the most underrated vintages of the century’. Taylor’s own two great vineyards in the Douro, Quinta de Vargellas and Quinta de Terra Feita. Both are categorised grade A - the highest possible rating. In years when Taylor’s produces a classic vintage, wines from these two estates are blended together. As they are some 20 miles apart, and subject to very different micro climates, they combine to produce a powerful, long lived and complex vintage port. In 1955 there was a heatwave at the end of April and early May.

Sherry, 1954

Harvey's Oloroso Sherry
Bottled in 1954 - Level High Shoulder

This Oloroso sherry wine, was bottled in 1954. An intense sherry that is matured in an oxygen present environment. There are noticeable spicy notes in older examples. Often also meaty hints, truffle and leather.

Food & wine Pairing:
The classic pairing for an Oloroso would be red meat and game, but it will also be lovely with well-aged cheese.

Niepoort Port, 1952

Colheita Port (Traditional Bottle)

This wine has light tinges of ruby in the heart of this wine that mostly show a well-evolved color. Initially there was a minty note that will delight port lovers. Concentrated flavours and good length on the finish. This wine has plenty of life left

Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle. Over time, it is natural that a little sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of colheita Port wine.

Kopke, 1950

Colheita Port, Douro br/> In Kopke Presentation Box

The 1950 Kopke Port is a true rarity. Bright amber colour with a complex nose of dried fruits, suggestions of dried figs, nuts, almonds and hazelnuts. A harmonious whole, marked by delicious honey notes and a subtle touch of roasted peanuts. Rich and satin in the taste, reveals an excellent structure and a remarkable unctuosity. A powerful wine but also balanced and elegant with a singular persistent finish.

Colheita, or single harvest ports, are aged in the barrel. Contrast this with vintage ports which are aged in the bottle and only have a short drinking window after opening. Colheita ports have had air working on them through the cask during all the years of aging, giving them a open-life of a month or longer.

Vintage Port

Warre’s Vintage port wines combine elegance, length and balance whilst still retaining the underlying rich opulence of great Vintage Port. This unsurpassed style is derived from the inherent characteristics of Warre’s two principal vineyards: Quinta da Cavadinha and Quinta do Retiro Antigo. They complement each other very well. Cavadinha’s location, aspect and altitude translate into a cooler ripening cycle providing the freshness, fine subtle floral aromas and ideal acidity, the latter contributing significantly to the wines’ longevity. Retiro Antigo’s location in the hotter Rio Torto Valley,
