Croft Port, 2009

Vintage Port, Douro
MAGNUM bottle
***93 Points- Wine Enthusiast***

Please Note: This is a rare MAGNUM format.

The Croft Vintage Port 2009 is a deep purple black colour. The nose combines an opulent and seductive fruitiness with an intricate kaleidoscope of complex multidimensional aroma. Pungent resiny scents of eucalyptus and rock rose, notes of lychee and passion-fruit combine with exotic hints of leather, musk and cedar. The palate is round and velvety and the dense but well integrated tannins are wrapped in a cloak of succulent berry fruit flavour. The jammy fruit carries through into the finish where it is lifted by an attractive crispness and pungency.

Louis Roederer Cristal, 2009

Cristal, Louis Roederer, Champagne
In Presentation Box
***96 Points - Vinous***

2009 Louis Roederer Cristal

Weather: The 2009 vintage was a continental, sunny year with a real winter that was very cold and dry followed by a glorious sun-filled summer and almost no rain in August and September. The harvest was incomparable in terms of quality and produced consistent, fresh and crunchy grapes.

Rich, creamy and radiant, the 2009 Cristal captures all of the natural generosity of the vintage while also retaining a good bit of freshness and aromatic intensity. Immediate and totally sensual in its allure, the 2009 will drink well with minimal cellaring. All things considered, at this stage, the 2009 comes across as relatively restrained for a wine from a warm year.

Messias, 2009

Colheita Port, Douro

The Messias colheita port from the outstanding 2009 vintage has been aged in a barrel until recent bottling. The extensive barrel ageing has given this wine a tawny colour with an expressive nose of wild dried fruit aromas where blackberry stands out. On the palate, caramel nuances complement the dried fruit leading to a sweet vanilla touch. It finishes long with a persistent and fine aftertaste.

Pair this luscious sweet port with almond tarts or caramel and chocolate based desserts. Crème brûlée is a classic combination as is Stilton cheese. Hard cheeses such as cheddar pair well too.

Quinta de la Rosa, 2009

Vintage Port, Douro

Quinta de La Rosa is a small estate in the heart of the Port wine-growing region in Alto Douro, near Pinhao, owned and operated by the Bergqvist family.

The Quinta and its vineyards were given to the Bergqvist family as a Christening present by the Feuerheerds, who established the property in 1906.

It remains one of the few Single Quinta where the vineyards start at the bank of the Douro and rise 450 meters to the towering top of the mountain. The 2008 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

Chateau Brane Cantenac, 2008

** 92 Points- RobertParker.com **

This 2008 Chateau Brane Cantenac is stunning, evolved, dark plum/ruby-hued that reveals aromas of the forest floor, sweet black and red currants, licorice and roasted herbs. Classic, elegant and medium to full-bodied, it provides a sexy, complex, intellectual as well as hedonistic turn-on. Drink this delicious Margaux over the next 12-15+ years. Score: 92 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (194), May 2011.

The 2008 Brane-Cantenac is a blend of 28% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 70% Cabernet Sauvignon. There remains that eucalyptus tincture that I have picked up on previous bottles, though here it is less pronounced,

Chateau La Lagune, 2008

Haut Medoc, 3rd Growth Classification, Bordeaux

Over the next quarter of a century, it will be interesting to see how this 2008 matches up with La Lagune’s prodigious 2005, the finest wine they have ever made. The opaque ruby/purple-tinged 2008 may be the second greatest wine yet produced here. Displaying sweet kirsch, black currant, cedar, smoke, and graphite aromas as well as an impressive thickness and glycerol richness, and a pure, nuanced character (because of the grapes’ long hang-time and the small yields), this remarkable effort is long, textured, and impeccably well-balanced. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 20-25.

Chateau Langoa Barton, 2008

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews
"This potential sleeper of the vintage has come around nicely now that it is in bottle. Elegant yet substantial, it exhibits a dense purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of black currants, cassis, cedarwood, herbs, toast and loamy soil undertones. Medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin (a component that was not evident from barrel), it should drink nicely for 15 or more years" Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 2011.

Chateau Leoville Barton, 2008

St Julien 2eme Cru Classe, Bordeaux
** 92 Points- The Wine Cellar Insider **

The 2008 Leoville Barton is deep pure purple with a slight edge of blue. Again (like Langoa) a well-rounded richness to the nose, ripe black fruit. Black mineral expression, and some very dry tannic structure, all with excellent depth of flavour. A real pleasure.

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 2008

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe, Bordeaux

Reviews for the 2008 Chateau Lynch-Bages: "A sensational effort for the vintage, this textured, opulent, superb Lynch Bages is already strutting its stuff and should easily last for 20 years. Medium to full-bodied with an opaque dense purple colour, notes of flowers and cassis, a layered texture that builds incrementally in the mouth and tremendous purity and depth, it can be drunk now or cellared for two decades or more. Bravo!" Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 2011.

"Juxtaposed against the Pichon-Lalande, the Lynch Bages is far more reticent on the nose with more overt graphite and sous-bois aromas inflecting the fruit.

Clos du Marquis, 2008

St Julien
Second WIne of Chateau Leoville Lascases

The 2008 Clos du Marquis is the second wine of the famous Chateau Leoville Lascases.

The 2008 Clos du Marquis has an expressive bouquet with blackberry, briary and pencil shaving aromas that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with just a light seam of greenness, although it merely adds freshness and asserts its classicism. I find this fresh and balanced, sporting just the right amount of dryness on the cassis-driven finish that balanced with the fruit, lending it a “breezy” and unassuming character that suits it down to the ground. Enjoy this over the next decade. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.
