Chateau Leoville Poyferre, 2007
St Julien 2me Cru Classe, Bordeaux
***90 Points Robert Parker***
Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. The nose is lacking a little vigour and definition: rather muffled black fruit, minerals, dark cherries but it opens up and coalesces in the glass. Modern in style, quite opulent for the vintage…typical of Didier's style. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe dusty tannins, quite spicy on the entry, nice weight and cohesion, a little dry towards the finish but decent length. Very fine.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 2007
Domaine Font de Michelle, Cuvee Etienne Gonnet, Rhone
The 2007 Chataeuneuf du Pape wine from Etienne Gonnet is a profound, smokey, leathery nose with an intriguing aromatic note like sandalwood. Beautiful palate with a gorgeous, silky texture, and a very sweet impression. Intense, wonderfully scented Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Producer Guilllaume Gonnet produces this Châteauneuf-du-Pape from equal quantities of Grenache and Syrah, the vines farmed biodynamically and on average, between 50 and 90 years old. That age of vine leads to an especially intense, pure Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with tonnes of dark fruit aroma, touches of mixed herbs and liquorice. …

Churchill's Port, 2007
Vintage Port, Douro
***90 Points- Wine Advocate***
Coffee, lavender and rose add complexity to the intense blackberry nose; on the palate the Churchill is a bold and powerful wine with the floral notes continuing through to the marmalade spiked bramble fruit. Fresh acidity and grippy tannins give massive structure - this is a wine for the long term.

Croft Port, 2007
Vintage Port, Douro MAGNUM Bottle ***16.5 Points- JancisRobinson.com*** ***93 Points- Wine Advocate***
An outstanding 2007 Vintage Port Wine from Croft. Please note: this is a rare Magnum bottle of wine - 1.5 liters.
"There is a nice limpidity on this Croft 2007. It is not the power that strikes you but the purity with black cherries, liquorice, violets and a hint of iodine. Very tight and focused. The palate is full-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry, pure blackberry, raspberry, white pepper and Asian spice towards the finish. Very fine focus, very pure and harmonious. Sensuous finish but it just tapers away when I need more grip and assertiveness. Still, this is a lovely Croft." - Neil Martin, Wine Journal, 93/100 Points (Outstanding). …

100 Points - Wine Spectator
The 2007 Vintage Port Wine from Dow's has received ***100 Points*** from Wine Spectator
This has a superb nose of rich, ripe berry fruit with the typical slightly austere and firm reserve of Dow. Analytically drier than usual, it is still blessed with dense fruit on the palate, a magnificent structure, weight and impressively long finish. On this showing, Dow is a strong candidate for wine of the vintage.

Reviews: "The 2007 Fonseca Vintage Port is opaque purple-colored with a high-class perfume of lavender, Asian spices, pencil lead, incense, and an amalgam of black fruits. On the palate it is voluminous with layered, succulent fruit, outstanding density, and excellent integration of tannin, acidity, and alcohol. The long finish and the wine’s impeccable balance suggest a lengthy evolution and a drinking window extending out to 2045. " Jay Miller, Wine Advocate.

Messias, 2007
Colheita Port, Douro
The Messias colheita port from the outstanding 2007 vintage has been aged in a barrel until recent bottling. The extensive barrel ageing has given this wine a tawny colour with an expressive nose of wild dried fruit aromas where blackberry stands out. On the palate, caramel nuances complement the dried fruit leading to a sweet vanilla touch. It finishes long with a persistent and fine aftertaste.
Pair this luscious sweet port with almond tarts or caramel and chocolate based desserts. Crème brûlée is a classic combination as is Stilton cheese. Hard cheeses such as cheddar pair well too. …

Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha Vintage Port, Douro
***96/100- Falstaff****
The 2007 Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha is a more introverted Taylor’s Vintage, an earthy bouquet with touches of orange essence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good backbone, quite reserved and composed at the moment. This is not a flamboyant Vinha Velha, but there is a very attractive, slightly biscuity quality towards the finish. Superb. The Vinha Vehla are five plots located in the heart of Quinta de Vargellas. The vines being between 80 and 120 years of age. Strict selection has led to a wine of stunning complexity, power and richness. This is one that will be at its peak 50 years hence. …

This blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc achieved 13.5% natural alcohol, and enjoys every state-of-the-art winemaking technique, most of them Burgundy-inspired (especially the cold pre-fermentation maceration, malolactic in barrel, and aging on its lees with plenty of batonnage).
