Quinta do Noval Nacional, 1996

Vintage Port

This wine is a mysterious phenomenon, a magical wine produced in extremely limited quantities and only in a few years each decade. It is the expression of a terroir and confirms something that is for me a deeply held belief. The Nacional is great because of the grapes and where they come from, not because of anything particular that we do. It has a unique personality, an extraordinary intensity and, even after many years of ageing, retains an astonishing youthfulness.

Barbaresco, 1995

Serio Batista Borgogno

Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's north-western Piedmont region. This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Nieve and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo. Similar to its more famous sibling Barolo, Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo and shares its cult status as one of the finest wines in the world.

Castelo di Nieve Santo Stefano (Includes leather effect Box as shown
Special Offer | Was £59.95 | Now £29.00

The Barbaresco Santo Stefano is the result of an ethereal combination of the ideal terroir with the perfectly-suited Nebbiolo grape. The Nebbiolo grapes for this wine are grown in the Albesani sub-appellation inside Barbaresco, in the single vineyard of Santo Stefano, which is owned entirely by Castello di Neive.

This Barbaresco is fully mature with tertiary characteristics of forest floor underscored by notes of cherries, roses, and baking spices. On the palate, it is elegant, with a long spicy finish.

Barolo, 1995

New

Bersano - Nirvasco

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

Bollinger, 1995

The varietal balance is usually 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay: no Pinot Meunier is used. The wine is exclusively based on the first press fraction, known as the cuvée.

Reviews
"The wine shows a smooth, aromatic, toasty nose with hints of pear and fudge, as well as some meaty, savoury notes.
