Croft Port

croft portCroft is one of the most distinguished of all Port houses. Founded in 1588, it is the oldest firm still active today as a Port wine producer.

The company is renowned above all for its Vintage Ports as well as for its range of wood aged reserves and tawnies, time-honoured styles refined by skill and experience passed down the generations.

In spite of its rich heritage and history spanning over four centuries, Croft has never been constrained by tradition. Today, as in the past, it maintains a pioneering spirit, continuing to create innovative new styles such as Croft Pink, the first ever rosé Port.

Behind every great wine producer is a great vineyard. The cornerstone of Croft’s distinctive house style is the famous Quinta da Roêda, described as the jewel of Port wine estates. The wines of this magnificent property, which contains some of the oldest vineyards in the Douro Valley, are the heart of Croft’s Vintage Port blend.

Croft Port, 1927

Vintage Port, DOC Douro
Excellent provenance

The 1927 Croft Vintage Port has an excellent provenance having been stored for decades in a good cellar in Wigan before being purchased by us.

Bottled by Justerini & Brooks
The history of J&B begins in 1749 when Giacomo Justerini, from Bologna in Italy, travelled to London to woo the Italian opera singer Margherita Bellino. Failing to win Margherita's heart, he remained in London and set himself up as a wine merchant in fashionable Pall Mall, along with a business partner, George Johnson.

Croft Port, 1922

Vintage Port
Level top shoulder or better
Excellent Provenance

These bottles of Croft 1922 Vintage Port was taken from a house in Halifax associated with the Holdsworth family who were big in textiles at the turn of the 20th Century. The cellar has remained closed for 60 years until the new owners opened it to discover a treasure trove of wines and Ports including many bottles from 1922 and 1947. All of the Port has been undisturbed and stored in cool conditions. The colour is exceptional for wines of this era.

The Croft 1922 Vintage Port is an extremely rare and historic wine, made by one of the oldest port houses, Croft, which was established in 1588.

Croft Port, 2003

Vintage Port

A 2003 vintage Port Wine from Croft Port. A medium intensity Port with a garnet core and mahogany rim. A lovely pronounced nose of figs and prunes, with some walnut characters. Also slightly earthy. Good sweet fruit on the palate and a full mouth feel. This is followed by a long, smooth nutty finish. After a 40-year absence, the 2003 Croft was made by the use of traditional treading in stone Lagers. The 2003 reflects the benefits of two years of strict vineyard management with gloriously pure fruit and scents of wild blueberry and crême de more. The purity and expression of fruit persists on the palate, supported by dense but very svelte tannins, culminating in a long finish.
