"Smooth sour cherries. Lot of fruit in this wine, would have never guessed it was almost 50 years old" Cellar Tracker Tasted 2010.
"Right out of the bottle, the colour of this wine hardly betrays any age. The nose at first has a lot of earth, but hey, the wine has been corked up for almost 50 years. This blows off and leaves classic Barolo aromas and flavours - tangy nebbiolo fruit, some mild exotic spice, hints of flowers, tiny bit of band-aid. The palate is also surprisingly young. No oxidation shows, really - just surprising full fruit, again exotic spice - this is medium bodied but full of vitality. It's not a great wine, but it's very good and has plenty of life, not fading at all yet. A very interesting wine to experience." Cellar Tracker, 2010
Made with the Nebbiolo grape, Barolo is considered to be one of the finest types of wine in the world,. Renowned for its longevity Barolo is often refered to as 'the King of wines'.
The Marchesi is a fine example of the outstanding 1961 vintage. It is a powerfully structured wine, tannic and deep ruby, warm complex flavour. It is a wine of ample taste, warm and persistent, of great harmony and flavour.
