Chateau Kirwan - This estate has been producing impressive wines since the mid-1990s, and much of the credit goes to the talented proprietress,. A beautiful bouquet of forest floor, plums, licorice, creme de cassis, and smoke emerges from this opaque ruby/purple-tinged effort. Medium-bodied with plenty of sweet tannin in addition to low acidity, it leaves a beautiful tactile impression that is concentrated yet fresh and lively.
Churchill Graham - Despite its thoroughly traditional-sounding name Churchill is the newest of the British-owned Port companies, founded in 1981 by J. Graham.
n 1999 Churchill’s bought Quinta da Gricha, a 50 hectare Grade “A” Vineyard estate situated on the south bank of the River Douro between Pinhão and Tua, in the prestigious Cima Corgo sub-region of the demarcated Douro Port Wine region. All Churchill’s ports are produced at the Quinta da Gricha winery in the traditional granite “lagares” or treading tanks built in 1852.
Deep purple in colour with a mass of soft and concentrated fruit. There's plenty of tannin to give structure and a pleasing earthiness on the finish. This is the perfect way to round off a good dinner.
