Description

The 2010 Barolo red wine challenged Piemonte's winemakers, but this is a classic vintage, reminiscent of the '80s and '90s, a time of consistently cooler, wetter, more stressed vintages. Scarzello’s ’10 Barolo is bewitching--the wine layers its crisp red and blue fruits with worn saddle leather, underbrush, rose petals, and a dusting of minerals and herbs. Chewy tannins cling to the cheeks, while a driving acidity powers the wine to a lingering, silky finish that’s accented by spices and herbs. Deriving from two separate vineyards, the monopole Vigna Merenda in Sarmassa and a plot in Terlo, the grapes for this wine ferment for about thirty days, and the wine ages in oak barrels for two years, followed by one year in bottle before release. About 500 cases made in 2010.
