Description

On the nose, this 2005 Chateau Batailley Grand Cru Classe is clean, pronounced and black fruit-led. As we may expect from a “left bank” wine that is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is the characteristics of this grape that lead. Black cherry and ripe plum along with a restrained note of blackcurrant form the bulk of the bouquet of this lovely Pauillac, although subtle oak notes of cedar and toast are also present and well integrated. Good, long finish.
Once in the mouth, this 2005 Chateau Batailley Grand Cru Classe Pauillac is dry, with a high level of acidity and tannin that look to make this wine suitable for prolonged ageing. A medium body is filled with the fruits of the forest floor, including those blackcurrants, cherries and plums noted on the nose. The long palate of this 2005 Chateau Batailley Grand Cru Classe Pauillac also exhibits further cedar and just the merest hint of a black spice prickle from the Petit Verdot and oak influence on the finish.
