Description
A 2001 vintage Bordeaux wine. "First tasted in May 2002 out of barrel when it displayed a lush, spicy, ripe nose with a tang of orange peel. Another fine bottle in November 2003: a dense ripe nose with a touch of orange peel and anis. The palate displays fine concentration with good acidity, lots of tobacco and blackberry with a peppery finish. Very harmonious. Superb. Then at the IMW tasting in November 2005. I have always enjoyed this Branaire-Ducru since en primeur. A rich, opulent nose of sweet black fruits, orange zest and mocha, perhaps a little too open than I would like at this primordial stage. The palate is well-balanced with blackberry, mocha again and a touch of fresh fig. Very harmonious, forward and expressive." - Neil Martin, Wine Journal

Reviews
From the excellent 2001 Vintage, this Branaire-Ducru scores an outstanding 91 Parker Points.
This is a deep red/purple-colored, stylish, sexy concoction of raspberries, graphite, smoke, minerals, and flowers. The complex aromatics are followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless St.-Julien displaying velvety tannin, medium body, and sweet, concentrated fruit in a stylish, well-constructed, elegant style. The tannin is unobtrusive and well-integrated. Parker, Wine Advocate 2004
