Château Cos D'Estournel is regarded by many as the finest wine within the northern commune of Saint Estèphe and is certainly an aesthete's delight. Driving past the stately Château Lafite-Rothschild with its manicured gardens and willow-trees billowing in the wind, you enter a roller-coaster dip which ascends towards a building that appears to have been designed on LSD with its Chinese pagodas and menagerie of creatures: lions, elephants and unicorns sculpted in sandstone that radiates at sunset. Even the large main door is ornately carved with exotic flora and fauna. What is surprising is that this is not even a place of residence: but simply one of the most outrageously decadent chai in the world. (Producer Profiles)
