Description
This 1961 is a delight. It has a rather rustic, perhaps brett tinged bouquet that is quite feral. It offers scents of cigar box and a hint of menthol with continued aeration, although you would never describe it as a powerful bouquet. The palate is smooth and fleshy on the entry, eschewing the usual austerity of the vintage, but it has wonderful harmony. Red cherries, citrus peel, Provencal herbs are all present and correct and there is impressive tension on the uncomplicated finish. This is a mature Saint Julien that says: drink me.
