The 1949 Chateau d' Yquem reveals a burnished amber color, then an intense and rich bouquet with honey, quince and mandarin, burnt caramel, vanilla and crème brulee. Still fresh considering the age, will drink perfectly now but also keep for many years to come. Simply beautiful and harmonious!
Reviews:
Honey, burnt orange sugar, apricots, pineapples, vanilla and crème brulee soar from the glass. But, this wine is not produced in the style of modern Yquems. This does not have the nearly the same level of sweetness or viscosity found in the best vintages of the 80’s and 90’s. Perfectly balanced with the right amount of acidity to give it lift.
Serving Suggestions:
Best served at 14 degrees Celsius. A classic match is to serve d'Yquem with Fois Gras. Other pairings would be to serve as a dessert along with dishes that feature apricots, pears or peaches.
Condition
In neck. Faded but otherwise good label.
