At over twenty years old, the '98 Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape showed a perfectly mature and refined bouquet of dried strawberries and dusty earth with cedar-cigar box, pine, hints of cooling menthol, and sweet herbs. On the palate, textures of pure silk ushered notes of plum, blueberry and ripe strawberry fruits, with hints of mint leaf and chocolate across the senses, guided by balanced acids and leaving just a hint of residual tannin. The finish was long and wonderfully fresh, even cooling to senses, displaying hints of plum, subtle ripe cherry and lingering florals.
