The finest traditional cuvee ever made at this estate is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape, which is a classic blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cinsault that was harvested from the 7th to the 17th of September. Deeper, richer and more concentrated than the 2009, it offers classic notes of framboise, kirsch, black cherries, garrigue and incense in a full-bodied, multi-dimensional and layered style that just begs to be drunk. The outstanding 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape (a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 7% Syrah, and 3% Cinsault that achieved 16.5% natural alcohol) exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a sumptuous bouquet of black fruits, scorched earth, lavender, truffles, and licorice. The wine reveals the vintage’s gorgeous freshness and vibrancy as well as sensational concentration, and a tremendous finish. It can be drunk young or cellared for 15+ years. ||One of the appellation’s great traditional names as well as one of the many biodynamically farmed vineyards of the area, sisters Sophie and Catherine Armenier run this estate with extreme passion and attention to detail. As I have indicated in the past, this family can trace its origins back to the mid-14th century. Domaine de Marcoux owns some very old vines from which they produce nearly 3,000 cases of their regular Chateauneuf du Pape, and about 400-500 cases of the Vieilles Vignes.
