The Fonseca 1966 Vintage Port is one of my selections for a "Port Legends" line up. This is the head of the field in what was an outstanding vintage. Whilst 50 years on the 1963's have started to wane, the 1966 still has a long road ahead of them. The 1966 Fonseca impresses from the start - still deep red with a beautiful, harmonious bouquet of morello cherry, cedar, spice, tobacco, coffee good complexity in the mouth thick and chewy with plenty of fruit and fully integrated tannins. Slightly hot aftertaste, but then a long and flavoursome sweet finish. Very long and delicious. Extremely impressive. TC VWP - Tasted 8 times.

Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port. It excels in its magnificently complex, intense bouquet of plummy, cedary, spicy fruit and long, broad, expansive flavours. With its lush, seductive character, one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage ports. The 1966 is a top success for that vintage and is fully mature, but will hold for 15 or more years.

Level very top shoulder / In neck - embossed capsule - labelled - Removed from a good cellar in Leeds where they were stored since original purchase.
