Description

A staff favourite, this richly textured red wine comes from the up and coming Bairrada region in Portugal. It is made by the indigenous grape Baga, the flagship variety of the region, aged for 24 months in 50% new French barriques. Baga's small berries and thick skins make for intense, tannic wines.

Tasting Notes Intense ruby colour. Atlantic characteristic wine, where balsamic nuances of resin and cedar get involved with iodine and salted sensations. Huge structure and great potential for ageing. ***18,5 points, Revista de Vinhos ***

***92 Points- The Wine Advocate, Sept. 2021***
Part of our mini-vertical this report, this is young and aggressive as well, but it might be a bit better balanced than its predecessors (the 2010 and 2013) in various ways. The tannins might not be quite as hard, although they sure aren't ripe. There's a big finish, with the fruit lifted by the acidity. The acidity makes this very fresh, and the freshness cuts through the new wood. For the most part, this is very old-school Baga. For those who want something more refined and forward, look away. Still, this does an awful lot right, and it may well yet improve. It's worth leaning up on it today. It's the type of Baga that makes me compare it to old-school Nebbiolo.
