Tasting Notes

Deep and intense in colour, the wine opens with a complex bouquet of blackberries, cassis and dark cherries, layered with notes of violets, liquorice, cocoa and subtle spice.

On the palate it is rich and structured, with concentrated flavours of ripe black fruits, dark chocolate and plum supported by firm but well-integrated tannins. The wine combines depth and freshness beautifully, with vibrant acidity carrying the flavours through to a long, powerful and refined finish.

Vintage Overview

The 2000 vintage followed a warm and dry growing season in the Douro Valley, producing grapes of excellent ripeness and concentration. Widely declared by the major Port houses, the year is considered one of the finest vintages at the turn of the century, producing wines with both impressive power and exceptional ageing potential.

Serving Suggestions

Serve at 16–18°C and decant for several hours before serving to allow the wine to fully open and to remove natural sediment. It pairs wonderfully with blue cheeses such as Stilton, dark chocolate desserts, or strong aged cheeses.

Cellaring

Still youthful and structured, Niepoort 2000 Vintage Port will continue to evolve for decades. Properly stored bottles can comfortably cellar until 2050 and beyond.
