Description
Quinta de Roriz, 2003
Vintage Port
The 2003 vintage in the Douro is recognised for its heat and intensity, producing Vintage Ports of remarkable concentration and power. Quinta de Roriz, one of the Douro’s historic estates with origins dating back to the 18th century, crafted a 2003 that reflects both the warmth of the season and the quinta’s distinctive character.
Located in the Cima Corgo, Quinta de Roriz is known for its schistous soils and old vines, yielding Ports of structure, depth and firm tannic backbone. The 2003 vintage at Roriz shows the richness typical of the year, balanced by the estate’s natural freshness and precision.
Tasting Notes:
Deep, opaque ruby in colour, the nose is intense and expressive. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry and ripe plum are layered with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice and warm spice. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated, with powerful yet well-defined tannins supporting flavours of dark berries, cocoa and subtle pepper. The finish is long, structured and warming, retaining impressive balance despite the vintage’s inherent opulence.
Serving & Food Pairing:
Decant carefully to remove natural sediment and allow the wine time to breathe before serving. Best enjoyed at cellar temperature. A classic companion to blue cheeses, dark chocolate desserts or enjoyed on its own after dinner.
Summary:
A bold and structured expression from a heat-driven vintage, Quinta de Roriz 2003 offers depth, intensity and classic Douro character — a powerful Vintage Port with excellent ageing potential.
