The 2023 Taylor’s Sentinels Vintage Port is a remarkable expression of the rich heritage and exceptional terroir of the Pinhão Valley. Crafted from Taylor’s four prestigious estates — Terra Feita, Junco, Casa Nova, and Eira Velha — this vintage captures the powerful, deeply fruited character for which the region is renowned. Inspired by the historic granite “Sentinel” pillars that mark the highest quality vineyard areas of the Douro, the Sentinels series represents a tribute to the centuries-old tradition of excellence at Taylor’s.

The 2023 growing season was shaped by a wet winter, which replenished much-needed reserves following previous dry years, and a hot, challenging summer that accelerated vine growth and ripening. While late-season rains created additional challenges, they ultimately allowed for the careful selection of only the finest parcels. The result is a wine that perfectly reflects the complexity and unique personality of each estate, combined to create a powerful, harmonious final blend.

In the glass, this Vintage Port reveals a deep, intense purple-black core with a fine violet rim. Aromas of rich blackcurrant, blackberry, and cherry unfold alongside hints of damson, apricot, gum cistus, and mint, offering both depth and vibrancy. On the palate, it is sumptuous and full-bodied, showcasing mouth-filling ripe fruit, firm but silky tannins, and layers of dark chocolate, cedar, and licorice. The finish is long and elegant, a true testament to the hedonistic and generous style that defines Taylor’s Pinhão Valley estates.
