Rich and assertive. A bold style with a lot of presence. Rich honey and dried herb nose and lots of citrussy summer fruits. Palate is dry and textured but needs a year or two to settle down. It’s rewarding to find such power not being allied to high alcohol.
2011 Chateau Batailley, Pauillac
Brilliant, vibrant, with an almost electric precision on both the nose and palate, Ch. Batailley’s 2011 is delicious, even in its youth. It has poise and elegance with lovely fresh blackcurrants on the nose and fine raspberry and blackberry fruit on the palate, mingling harmoniously with an earthy minerality. One to cellar.

This fresh, backward wine offers a medium to full-bodied, deeply concentrated core of spice-laced dark fruits. Softly-textured and seductive in the mid-palate, it boasts abundant layers of candied Damson plums, blueberries, black cherries, molasses, and hints of chocolate before revealing its firm structure.
