Ruby Port from Vintage Wine and Port

About Ruby Port

Ruby Port wine is a type of fortified wine that originates from Portugal's Douro Valley. It's one of the most well-known and widely consumed styles of Port. Like other Ports, Ruby Port is a fortified wine, meaning it's made by adding a neutral grape spirit (such as brandy) to the wine during fermentation. This process stops fermentation, leaving residual sugar and boosting alcohol content. Ruby Ports are typically aged for a shorter period compared to other Port styles like Tawny or Vintage ports. They're often aged for a few years in stainless steel tanks to preserve their vibrant red colour and fruity flavours.

Ruby port is known for its rich red color, vibrant fruitiness, and full-bodied taste. It usually carries flavors of red fruits like cherry, raspberry, and plum, with some variations showing hints of chocolate, spice, or floral notes.

Ruby Port Types

Ruby: This is the most basic type, usually a blend of different vintages, offering a young and fruity profile.

Reserve Ruby: These are typically higher quality Ruby ports, with more complexity and sometimes a longer aging process.

Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port LBV ports are from a single vintage and are aged longer in wood before bottling, making them more complex than basic Ruby ports.

Vintage Port Vintage Ports are from a single vintage useing the highest quality grapes to make some of the most profound wines in the world capable of aging for many decades
